Under general supervision, is responsible for providing research and administrative assistance to division attorneys; drafts legal documents and correspondence; files case documents promptly; maintains reporting statistics, and performs related duties as required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepares cases for the docket to include issuing subpoenas, obtaining restitution amounts, compiling petitions and reports, and collecting other case information.
Assists attorneys with current case law research and case preparation.
Requests investigative searches for prior convictions, vehicle registration, bankruptcies, and current addresses.
Drafts legal documents and other correspondence such as probable cause paragraphs for at-large/re-filed cases and synopsis for Grand Jury presentations.
Maintains division statistics involving caseload information.
Maintains calendar for case settings and hearings and notifies law enforcement personnel of trial dates.
Provides case status information to judges, law enforcement agencies, victims, bail bondsmen, and opposing attorneys.
Performs related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree in Legal Assistance.
Two years of legal experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Must have knowledge of legal terminology involved in civil and criminal procedures.
Must have knowledge of civil and criminal justice process.
Must have skill in completing legal research.
Must have ability to organize legal information.
Must have ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.
Must have ability to effectively communicate with diverse groups of individuals utilizing tact and diplomacy.
Must have ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
Must have ability to operate a personal computer, typewriter, and essential office equipment.
Must have ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, judges, clients, attorneys, and the public.
Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance.
Must clear a pre-employment physical.
May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek.
