Duties
- Safely operate different types of commercial trucks such as front loader, rear loader, and roll-off trucks in accordance with DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations and state transportation laws.
- Load and unload waste materials efficiently while adhering to hazardous materials regulations and safety protocols.
- Drive predetermined routes while following traffic laws, traffic signs, and safety guidelines to ensure timely collection.
- Conduct routine inspections of the garbage truck’s mechanical components, including air brakes and manual transmission systems, to maintain optimal performance.
- Collect waste from residential, commercial, or municipal sites with a focus on customer service excellence by interacting professionally with clients.
- Follow proper procedures for handling hazardous or special waste materials when necessary.
- Maintain accurate logs of daily routes, loads collected, and any incidents or mechanical issues encountered during shifts.
Qualifications
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with endorsements for air brake operation and manual transmission preferred.
- Proven experience operating front loader trucks, rear loader trucks, or roll-off trucks in municipal waste management or similar outdoor environments.
- Strong knowledge of traffic laws, safety protocols, heavy lifting techniques, and solid waste management practices.
- Mechanical knowledge related to garbage truck systems for basic troubleshooting and maintenance.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as heavy lifting and prolonged outdoor work in various weather conditions.
- Familiarity with DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations and state transportation laws governing commercial driving.
- Excellent customer service skills with a professional attitude when interacting with clients or community members.
