At The Children’s Center for Communication/Beverly School for the Deaf (CCCBSD), we provide transformative, person-centered education and services for Deaf and/or disabled individuals in a language-rich, inclusive environment.

We are seeking a Teacher of the Deaf – Site-Based (TOD) to lead a collaborative Deaf Education classroom within a host elementary school. This is a unique opportunity to combine the depth of classroom teaching with the impact of a partnership model—supporting students both within a specialized setting and in inclusive environments.

About the Role

The Teacher of the Deaf – Site-Based is a highly trained educator responsible for leading a classroom serving a cohort of Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students within a collaborative school setting.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide daily, direct instruction aligned to IEP goals and Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks

  • Create a language-rich, accessible learning environment

  • Support students’ academic, communication, and social-emotional development

  • Facilitate meaningful inclusion opportunities within general education settings

  • Serve as a key liaison between CCCBSD and the host school

This role is ideal for an educator who thrives in a team-based environment, values collaboration, and is passionate about Deaf education and student access.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Student Learning

  • Develop and deliver comprehensive unit and lesson plans

  • Provide individualized and small group instruction based on student needs

  • Align instruction to IEP goals, student data, and curriculum standards

  • Utilize assistive technology and adaptive tools to support access

  • Monitor and assess student progress using a variety of methods

IEP, Assessment & Compliance

  • Develop and implement IEPs, including goals, accommodations, and progress monitoring

  • Complete progress reports and educational evaluations in a timely manner

  • Administer and support MCAS and MCAS-Alt assessments

  • Maintain accurate and compliant student documentation

Classroom & Program Leadership

  • Lead and manage a site-based Deaf Education classroom/program

  • Develop classroom schedules, including inclusion opportunities

  • Create a structured, engaging, and supportive classroom environment

  • Oversee classroom materials, supplies, and organization

Collaboration & Partnership

  • Collaborate with general and special education staff within the host school

  • Act as the primary point of contact for the site-based program

  • Support classroom teachers in ensuring accessible instruction

  • Facilitate peer awareness and inclusion activities

  • Communicate regularly with families and caregivers

Supervision & Team Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor teaching assistants

  • Lead site-based team meetings

  • Partner with the Director of Outreach on staff support and evaluation

  • Coordinate with interpreters and related service providers to ensure full access

Student Support & Access

  • Support use of hearing assistive technology (e.g., hearing aids, cochlear implants, FM systems)

  • Promote self-advocacy and social-emotional development

  • Ensure students have full access to academic and social opportunities

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

  • Experience working with children in an educational setting

  • Eligibility for a Massachusetts Teacher of the Deaf (TOD) license (or waiver eligible)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or related field

  • 3 years of relevant experience

  • Experience in classroom teaching and IEP development

  • Knowledge of assistive technology and communication modalities

  • ASL proficiency or willingness to develop skills
