Academic Enrichment Teacher  

Grade 6-8

QUALIFICATIONS:   

1. Must comply with all employment criteria legally established by the Lee County Board of Education.
2. Must hold an appropriate Alabama Professional Educator Certificate.
3. Have a minimum of three years of experience as a middle or high school teacher. Five years of teaching middle or high school students is preferred.
4. Demonstrate expertise, as attested by a current or former employing county or city superintendent of education, in mathematics instruction and intervention and early numeracy interventions, including dyscalculia interventions.
5. Bachelor’s Degree is required. A master's degree in education in a core academic subject area is preferred.
6. Excellent communication skills with outstanding presentation, interpersonal, and time management skills as evidenced by working well with colleagues and adult learners.  
7. Valid Alabama driver license, reliable transportation, and evidence of insurance.
8. Must meet the suitability criteria for employment as required by the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
9. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Background Check Required: (HB 402 ACT 99-361 Alabama Legislature) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

REPORTS TO:         Principal

JOB GOALS:           To develop a strong enrichment curriculum; and implement a sound program of instruction for qualified students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Applicable to All Employees:

• Attend on a regular and predictable basis.
• Complete assigned tasks in a safe manner and in a constant state of alertness.
• Uphold Board policies, including the anti-harassment program.
• Work in a cooperative manner with students, teachers, staff, supervisors, and the public.
• Work effectively and efficiently under time and productivity standards.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Report for duty fifteen minutes before the opening of school and remain fifteen minutes after the close of school.
2. Develop, plan and implement a creative and enriching program of instruction that requires the maximum use of higher-level thinking skills, problem solving techniques and creative thinking skills. Implement a sound program of instruction for qualified students
3. Collaborate with other classroom teachers in the development, evaluation, and revision of the enrichment program.
4. Provide ongoing and regular communication with building principals, teachers, and parents regarding classroom activities and student progress.
5. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations at the times designated.
6. Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided and appropriate to the interests and maturity of the students.
7. Establish and maintain appropriate discipline in the classroom and assist staff in the establishment and maintenance of discipline in the school environment.
8. Prepare for classes assigned, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the principal at the local school.
9. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, board policy, and administrative regulation.
10. Evaluate student progress on a regular basis and in accordance with the system's established procedures.
11. Seek the assistance of specialists as needed and make referrals when appropriate.
12. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students and to safeguard all equipment, materials, and facilities.
13. Make reasonable provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day. Faculty and administration will mutually agree upon procedures for such conferences.
14. Work with other staff members in planning school activities, instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
15. Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
16. Participate in extracurricular activities as mutually agreed upon by faculty and administration.
17. Attend and participate regularly in open house, parent meetings, and faculty meetings.
18. Maintain a professional, cooperative working relationship with parents and the community.
19. Promote good public relations for schools and the school system with the public.
20. Maintain and improve professional competence.
21. Assist with the identification of students who qualify for enrichment programs
22. Perform other related duties during school necessary to the safe and effective operation of the school when requested by the principal.

The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Occasional exposure to a variety of weather conditions. Exposure to heated/air-conditioned and ventilated facilities. Exposure to a building in which a variety of chemical substances are used for cleaning, instruction, and/or operation of equipment. Function in a workplace that is usually moderately quiet but that can be noisy at times.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to compare, analyze, communicate, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills and compile. Occasionally required to copy and negotiate.

EMPLOYMENT: This is a nine-month contract (187 days).  Based on the board-approved salary schedule.

EVALUATION: The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of Professional Personnel.

Salary : $48,629 - $96,819
