Academic Enrichment Teacher
Grade 6-8
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must comply with all employment criteria legally established by the Lee County Board of Education.
- Must hold an appropriate Alabama Professional Educator Certificate.
- Have a minimum of three years of experience as a middle or high school teacher. Five years of teaching middle or high school students is preferred.
- Demonstrate expertise, as attested by a current or former employing county or city superintendent of education, in mathematics instruction and intervention and early numeracy interventions, including dyscalculia interventions.
- Bachelor’s Degree is required. A master's degree in education in a core academic subject area is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills with outstanding presentation, interpersonal, and time management skills as evidenced by working well with colleagues and adult learners.
- Valid Alabama driver license, reliable transportation, and evidence of insurance.
- Must meet the suitability criteria for employment as required by the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Background Check Required: (HB 402 ACT 99-361 Alabama Legislature) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB GOALS: To develop a strong enrichment curriculum; and implement a sound program of instruction for qualified students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Applicable to All Employees:
- Attend on a regular and predictable basis.
- Complete assigned tasks in a safe manner and in a constant state of alertness.

- Work in a cooperative manner with students, teachers, staff, supervisors, and the public.
- Work effectively and efficiently under time and productivity standards.
Essential Job Functions:
- Report for duty fifteen minutes before the opening of school and remain fifteen minutes after the close of school.
- Develop, plan and implement a creative and enriching program of instruction that requires the maximum use of higher-level thinking skills, problem solving techniques and creative thinking skills. Implement a sound program of instruction for qualified students
- Collaborate with other classroom teachers in the development, evaluation, and revision of the enrichment program.
- Provide ongoing and regular communication with building principals, teachers, and parents regarding classroom activities and student progress.
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations at the times designated.
- Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided and appropriate to the interests and maturity of the students.
- Establish and maintain appropriate discipline in the classroom and assist staff in the establishment and maintenance of discipline in the school environment.
- Prepare for classes assigned, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the principal at the local school.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, board policy, and administrative regulation.
- Evaluate student progress on a regular basis and in accordance with the system's established procedures.
- Seek the assistance of specialists as needed and make referrals when appropriate.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students and to safeguard all equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Make reasonable provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day. Faculty and administration will mutually agree upon procedures for such conferences.
- Work with other staff members in planning school activities, instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
- Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
- Participate in extracurricular activities as mutually agreed upon by faculty and administration.
- Attend and participate regularly in open house, parent meetings, and faculty meetings.
- Maintain a professional, cooperative working relationship with parents and the community.
- Promote good public relations for schools and the school system with the public.
- Maintain and improve professional competence.
- Assist with the identification of students who qualify for enrichment programs
- Perform other related duties during school necessary to the safe and effective operation of the school when requested by the principal.

EMPLOYMENT: This is a nine-month contract (187 days). Based on the board-approved salary schedule.
EVALUATION: The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of Professional Personnel.
