OverviewBetter Together Recreation, LLC is hiring a Direct Support Recreation Coach to support children and adults with developmental disabilities in a structured sports, fitness, and community recreation program. This position helps participants build confidence, improve physical wellness, practice social skills, and participate safely in inclusive activities such as basketball, walking, stretching, conditioning exercises, group games, and community-based recreation.
The Direct Support Recreation Coach will provide hands-on support, supervision, encouragement, and instruction during program activities. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys sports, fitness, teamwork, helping others, and working in a positive community-based environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise and support participants during sports, fitness, recreation, and community activities.
- Assist with warm-ups, stretching, basketball drills, walking activities, conditioning exercises, group games, and cool-down routines.
- Provide direct instruction, verbal prompts, modeling, redirection, encouragement, and hands-on assistance when needed.
- Support participants with social interaction, teamwork, communication, independence, and positive behavior during activities.
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all participants.
- Monitor participants for safety, hydration, fatigue, behavior changes, or medical concerns during activities.
- Assist with set-up, clean-up, and proper use of sports and fitness equipment.
- Complete daily notes, attendance records, progress documentation, and incident reports when needed.
- Follow all program policies, safety procedures, confidentiality rules, and mandated reporting requirements.
- Communicate professionally with supervisors, families, caregivers, Regional Center staff, and other team members when appropriate.
- Participate in required training, staff meetings, CPR/First Aid, and ongoing in-service training.
Skills and Qualifications
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
- Sports, fitness, coaching, recreation, caregiving, DSP, behavioral support, or direct care experience is a plus.
- Ability to provide patient, respectful, and person-centered support.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to follow instructions, document services, and maintain professional boundaries.
- Comfortable assisting with physical activities such as walking, stretching, sports drills, and light fitness exercises.
- Must be dependable, punctual, and able to work with a diverse group of participants.
- Must be able to support participants in community settings such as parks, gyms, and recreation centers.
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
- Must be able to pass required background checks/fingerprinting.
- Valid California driver’s license and proof of insurance preferred.
- Must be willing to complete required training related to client rights, safety, mandated reporting, incident reporting, confidentiality, behavior support, and emergency procedures.

Pay: $17.90 - $20.00 per hour
