The ideal candidate will be capable of setting up and troubleshooting injection molding processes, resolving production and equipment issues, training employees, coordinating maintenance needs, and keeping production running safely and efficiently.

This is a hands-on position. We are looking for someone who can lead the molding floor while also stepping in technically when a machine, mold, process, or production issue needs to be resolved.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day injection molding operations across all shifts.
  • Provide leadership and direction to molding personnel, with molding employees reporting directly to this position.
  • Set up, start up, and troubleshoot injection molding machines, molds, processes, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Diagnose and correct molding-process problems to maintain stable and efficient production.
  • Respond to quality-related molding issues identified by Quality Control and make the necessary process, machine, mold, or equipment corrections.
  • Work closely with Quality Control when production issues arise. Quality Control is responsible for product inspection, acceptance, and quality standards; this position is responsible for addressing and correcting molding-process issues contributing to those problems.
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, and processing issues associated with injection molding operations.
  • Work closely with the mold-making department to identify and resolve mold-related and molding-process problems.
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance and schedule outside maintenance contractors when required.
  • Monitor machine performance, cycle consistency, production efficiency, scrap, and downtime.
  • Ensure proper machine setups, mold changes, startups, and shutdowns.
  • Train and develop molding personnel and willingly share technical knowledge and experience with employees.
  • Ensure employees follow established company procedures, safety requirements, and workplace policies.
  • Maintain a productive, safe, organized, clean, and professional molding-floor environment.
  • Assist with production planning and prioritization to support efforts to meet customer requirements and production schedules.
  • Identify recurring production problems and work toward practical, long-term corrective solutions.
  • Maintain appropriate production, setup, process, maintenance, and troubleshooting records.
  • Communicate production issues, equipment concerns, staffing concerns, and significant molding problems to management.
  • Promote teamwork and maintain a productive, professional, and respectful working environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of hands-on injection molding experience.
  • Extensive hands-on experience setting up, processing, and troubleshooting injection molding machines.
  • Strong understanding of injection molding processes, molds, machinery, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Strong working knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems related to injection molding equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose molding defects and determine whether problems originate from the process, machine, mold, material, or auxiliary equipment.
  • Thorough understanding of different types of injection molds and molding equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively with a mold-making department to troubleshoot and resolve molding issues.
  • Previous experience leading, supervising, or directing injection molding personnel.
  • Ability to oversee molding operations across multiple shifts.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability and willingness to train less-experienced employees and share technical knowledge.
  • Ability to maintain accountability and enforce company policies and procedures professionally.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe, efficient, and consistent production.
  • Ability to work effectively with Production, Quality Control, Maintenance, Mold Making, and Management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as an Injection Molding Floor Manager, Molding Manager, Process Technician, Process Manager, Molding Supervisor, or similar senior hands-on molding position.
  • Experience troubleshooting a variety of injection molding machines, materials, molds, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Experience coordinating preventive maintenance and outside equipment service.
  • Familiarity with continuous-improvement and lean-manufacturing principles.
  • Forklift experience or certification is a plus.
