Job Title: DE Underwriter (LAPP/SAR Certified)
Location: Schaumburg, IL
Job Type: Full-Time | In-Office
Better Lending is seeking an experienced DE Underwriter with active FHA Direct Endorsement (DE), LAPP, and SAR certifications to join our growing mortgage team.
Responsibilities
- Underwrite conventional, FHA, VA, and USDA mortgage loans in accordance with investor, agency, and company guidelines.
- Perform FHA Direct Endorsement reviews and issue final approvals as authorized.
- Review loan files for accuracy, completeness, creditworthiness, income, assets, appraisal, and collateral requirements.
- Ensure all underwriting decisions meet regulatory, compliance, and quality-control standards.
- Work closely with loan processors, loan officers, and operations teams to resolve conditions and move files efficiently through the pipeline.
- Provide clear and timely underwriting conditions and communicate decisions professionally.
- Maintain strong knowledge of FHA, VA, FNMA, FHLMC, and investor guidelines.
Requirements
- Active DE, LAPP, and SAR certifications are required.
- Minimum 3–5 years of recent residential mortgage underwriting experience.
- Strong experience underwriting FHA, VA, Conventional, and USDA loans.
- Thorough understanding of agency guidelines, AUS findings, income calculation, credit analysis, and appraisal review.
- Excellent attention to detail, decision-making, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage a high-volume pipeline while maintaining quality and turnaround times.
- Experience with Encompass or a similar loan origination system preferred.
