Responsibilities
Position Objective
The Clinical Assistant Team Member (Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, or Medical Assistant) provides clinical and administrative support to ensure safe, high-quality patient care. This position assists providers with examinations, treatments, and procedures while maintaining accurate documentation and promoting a positive patient experience.
This is a safety-sensitive role involving direct patient care, medication administration (within scope of licensure or certification), and clinical coordination in a fast-paced primary care environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and prepare patients for provider examination by obtaining vital signs, history, and current medications; document all information accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Assist providers during examinations, procedures, and treatments, ensuring proper room setup and patient comfort.
- Maintain accurate and complete patient records in the EMR.
- Administer medications, injections, or immunizations as ordered (within scope of practice).
- Perform diagnostic tests and procedures as directed (e.g., EKGs, pulse oximetry, spirometry, point-of-care testing, glucose checks).
- Draw blood and process lab specimens according to protocol.
- Support patient education and provide instruction on treatment plans, medications, and preventive care.
- Maintain exam rooms, instruments, and equipment, including cleaning, sterilization, and inventory management.
- Manage patient phone calls, appointment scheduling, and proactive care coordination (e.g., medication reminders, follow-up calls, transitions of care).
- Participate in maintaining quality control logs, lab compliance, and medication inventory.
- Support front office and administrative functions as needed, including check-in/check-out, referrals, and prescription management.
- Collaborate with the care team to ensure efficient clinic flow and a positive patient experience.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support clinic operations.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Current state licensure or certification as one of the following:
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
- Certified or Registered Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA) from an accredited program.
- CPR/BLS certification required; IV start or phlebotomy certification preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of recent clinical experience in a primary care, outpatient, or ambulatory setting.
- Experience using electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
- Knowledge of OSHA, HIPAA, infection control, and universal precautions.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Proficient with Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides) and basic computer applications.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated professionalism, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity in patient interactions.
- Must be results-oriented, dependable, and capable of working independently or collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Full range of body motion, including assisting with patient transfers; manual dexterity and eye–hand coordination.
- Requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, pushing, and reaching (at arm’s length and overhead) for extended periods in a clinical setting.
- Must be able to lift and move patients and medical equipment as needed; lift/carry up to 15 lbs.
- Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods, depending on assignment.
- Must have reliable transportation and flexibility to report to assigned clinic locations as scheduled.
