Responsibilities
- Assist individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation to promote independence and health.
- Implement behavior management strategies to support positive behavior and emotional regulation.
- Facilitate communication using various methods, including American Sign Language (ASL), to ensure effective understanding and expression.
- Support individuals during community outings, appointments, and recreational activities to foster social integration.
- Collect data on progress, behaviors, and service outcomes to inform care plans and track development.
- Administer medications following prescribed protocols while maintaining accurate medication records.
- Provide transportation as needed, ensuring safety during driving or escorting individuals to various destinations.
Skills
- Proven experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorder.
- Knowledge of special education principles and behavioral health practices.
- Strong communication skills, including proficiency in American Sign Language preferred.
- Ability to assist with ADLs and provide caregiving support with patience and empathy.
- Experience in home and community care settings, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
- Competence in data collection, documentation, and reporting related to client progress.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for safe transportation duties.
- Familiarity with medication administration procedures and medication safety protocols.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team in social work or behavioral health environments.
