Marketing-Public Relations-Community Outreach Director, a mid- to senior-level professional, for the Better Business Bureau of Western Pennsylvania works as a champion toward furthering the mission of the BBB across the Western Pennsylvania territory. This position serves as the regional face of the BBB, blending strategic marketing, media relations, and high-impact community outreach to drive brand awareness, support membership retention, and maintain a consistent, positive public image.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The core duties of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Public Relations & Media Engagement: Represents the BBB through proactive media outreach, television/radio appearances and interviews, speaking engagements, and public events while meticulously tracking impact metrics. Serves as the primary liaison with outside promotional and advertising agencies.
• Community Outreach & Partnerships: Fosters and maintains strategic partnerships with local consumer groups, business associations, and civic organizations. Promotes and executes signature BBB programs, including the Speakers Bureau and the BBB Torch Awards for Ethics.
• Marketing Strategy & Brand Integrity: Collaborates with executive management to establish strategic marketing plans and budgets. Ensures all brand messaging, product lines, and promotional materials remain timely, relevant, and strictly aligned with the master BBB brand image.
• Content Development & Copywriting: Oversees, produces, and edits high-quality copy for digital and print channels, including newsletters, email marketing (e-blasts), press releases, website updates, social media, etc.
• Regional Growth & Retention Support: Conducts regular travel and targeted outreach to a variety of demographics and markets within the Western PA service territory (28-counties) to support membership retention, consumer education, and build localized trust. Focus areas include: Seniors, Veterans, Youth, Community gatherings and/or any identified at risk-populations.
• Supervisory Responsibilities: Carries out supervisory responsibilities, if a department team is established (intern or hires), for the communications team in accordance with organizational policies. Responsibilities include training employees, planning and assigning work, appraising performance, and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience
• Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or closely related field
• 3 – 5 years of related professional experience in communications, PR, or marketing fields
• An equivalent combination of education and experiences will be evaluated.
Communication Skills
• Ability to read, comprehend, and write professional correspondence for the scope of email communications to social media to press releases. Must excel with spelling and grammar and apply any brand standards required.
• Verbally communicate across diverse platforms and mediums: Adept at addressing both small and large professional groups, managing media relations, and tailoring messaging to build trust with underserved or vulnerable communities—including youth, veterans, and older adults. Effective verbal communication both in-person and digitally is required.
Mathematical Skills
• Ability to perform basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, percentages.
• Understanding of reporting driven from media exchanges and social media results
• Ability to plan, monitor, control expenses and work within approved budgets
Tech Literacy & Computer Skills
• Competency in general computer navigation, internet proficiency, social media sites and support hubs, database usage, and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS & NOTES
Automobile Required
• Must possess a reliable personal vehicle with proper insurance, state inspections, state vehicle registration requirements, and a valid drivers license for regular regional travel and off-site community outreach meet in-office attendance requirements.
Mobile Phone
• A cell phone will be provided to be used for work purposes; including email, text, driving directions, social media, photos, video, etc.
Schedule Flexibility
• Ability to attend off-site meetings, networking events, and media engagements that may fall outside of regular business hours; assess and manage in-office requirements based off of outreach needs and schedule.
