Carrier Representative is responsible for securing carrier capacity, managing carrier relationships, ensuring service execution, and providing proactive communication across both assigned customer account pods and the freight agent network. This role serves as the primary liaison between operations, freight agents, and carrier partners to ensure on-time service, competitive pricing and rapid issue resolution.
Key Responsibilities
1. Capacity Procurement & Carrier Development
- Source and secure qualified carrier capacity for customer and agent freight.
- Build and maintain relationships with core carriers across key lanes and modes.
- Negotiate rates while maintaining margin objectives.
- Develop carrier routing guides and preferred carrier lists.
- Increase carrier participation within strategic customer networks, including third party booking platforms
- Support seasonal and surge capacity planning.
2. Customer Pod Support
- Support assigned customer account teams with daily capacity needs.
- Participate in customer planning meetings when required.
- Understand customer-specific requirements, SOPs, appointment processes and service expectations.
- Provide market intelligence and capacity updates to account teams.
- Assist with pricing support for new opportunities and bid requests.
3. Freight Agent Network Support
- Serve as primary carrier sales resource for assigned freight agents.
- Assist agents in securing capacity for strategic opportunities.
- Provide carrier recommendations and market intelligence.
- Support onboarding of new agents regarding carrier procurement processes.
- Help agents grow carrier networks within strategic regions and modes.
4. Track & Trace Management
- Monitor active shipments from dispatch through delivery.
- Ensure carriers provide timely status updates.
- Verify pickup and delivery milestones are entered accurately in TMS and other customer portals.
- Escalate service concerns before they impact customers.
- Maintain visibility on all critical shipments.
5. Carrier Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure carriers meet company onboarding and compliance requirements.
- Monitor carrier safety, insurance, and service performance.
- Identify and mitigate fraud risks.
- Maintain compliance with customer routing requirements.
6. Issue Resolution & Service Recovery
- Manage carrier-related service exceptions.
- Resolve missed pickups, delays, equipment failures, claims, and detention disputes.
- Coordinate recovery plans with operations and customer teams.
- Document root causes and corrective actions.
- Escalate critical issues to leadership when necessary.
Qualifications
- 2 to 4 years of logistics experience, ideally at a reputable 3PL or brokerage
- Strong comfortability with making cold calls and overcoming objections
- Effective negotiation, communication and follow up skills
- Desire to learn, be coached and contribute to a team environment
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with a wide variety of people
- Strong work ethic that showcases a winning attitude
- Working knowledge of MS Office suite of products and TMS a plus
Salary : $60,000 - $67,000
