What are the responsibilities and job description for the First Grade Classroom Teacher position at Bethlehem Lutheran School?
Bethlehem Lutheran School - Ohio District, LCMS
The Mission: Bethlehem Lutheran believes that children are a precious gift from God, and as such, we, in partnership with parents, work together to foster Christ-like qualities in all we pursue: Spiritual growth, academic excellence, physical, emotional, and social development.
Who You Are
At Bethlehem, your classroom is your mission field, but our community is your home. We are searching for a Gospel-centered leader who jumps in with both feet. We are looking for:
A Living Witness: You are more than a staff member; you are a dispenser of God’s Grace. You don't just teach Bible stories; you are the heart and hands of Jesus to your students on a daily basis.
A Partner to Families: You recognize that parents are a child’s first and most influential teachers. You don't just "report" to parents; you nurture relationships with them. You see the value in a quick encouraging phone call, a shared prayer during a conference, and working hand-in-hand to support the unique needs of their child.
A Community Stakeholder: You understand that the role of a Lutheran educator doesn't start and end at the classroom door. You thrive on being "all-in"—whether that’s attending the Christmas Band Concert, collaborating on a new curriculum map with your colleagues, or praying with a staff member in the hallway.
A Humble Professional: You believe that growth, service, and collaboration are the hallmarks of a true educator. You possess the professional expertise to lead a literacy block, yet you have the servant’s heart required to patiently tie ten pairs of shoelaces before recess. In our hallways, there is no task too small and no child too young to be shown the love of Christ.
The Toolkit: Qualifications
Faith: Be a committed Christian whose beliefs and values align with the beliefs and values of Bethlehem Lutheran School
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a valid Ohio Teaching License.
Experience: Familiarity with how young learners develop. Ability to develop, implement, and adapt engaging lessons based on the needs of the students.
A Lifelong Learner: You view "professional development" not as a requirement, but as a way to better serve the families who have entrusted their children to us. You are eager to grow, ready to share your skills, and excited to learn from your peers.
Spirit: We are a "Law and Gospel" school. When a student (or a teacher!) has a bad day, we lead with forgiveness and a fresh start tomorrow.
The Order: You have a "Mary Poppins" touch, your classroom is organized, your routines are firm, but your atmosphere is full of grace.
Why You'll Love it at Bethlehem...
A Culture of Support: You aren't on an island. You will work closely with your colleagues, a supportive Principal, and a Pastor who is deeply invested in the school.
Small Class Sizes: We keep our numbers manageable so you can do the relationship-building you love. You can actually get to know your student's strengths and quirks.
The Bethlehem Tradition: Be part of a school that feels like a community, where we celebrate together and grow together in both grace and knowledge.
