What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Bus Driver Trainee position at Bethlehem Area School District?
The Bethlehem Area School District is looking for motivated individuals to become School Bus Driver Trainees. No CDL? No problem! Paid training is provided and includes approximately 25 hours of in-classroom instruction and 20 hours of behind-the-wheel training to help you:
- Obtain a CDL Class B license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
- Obtain Pennsylvania School Bus Driver certification
Upon successful completion, trainees can advance to a School Bus Driver position. As a fully trained bus driver, you will follow scheduled routes, transport students safely, and provide excellent customer service.
Schedule & Hours
Minimum 20 hours/week, up to 40 hours/week. Split shifts: morning runs (6:00–9:00 a.m.) and afternoon runs (2:00–4:30 p.m.), Monday–Friday. Optional mid-day, evening, and weekend routes available by bid.
Responsibilities
- Safely transport students to and from school and activities
- Follow schedules, district policies, and traffic laws
- Provide excellent customer service to students, parents, staff, and the public
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
- Communicate with the transportation office regarding scheduling or route updates
- Willingness to use email, online tools, tablets, and other technology
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license
- Transportation or pupil transportation experience helpful, but not required
- Ability to meet all CDL and certification requirements (training provided)
Pay & Benefits
Training pay is $17.00/hour. Upon successful completion of training and certification, pay increases to $27.53/hour. Single coverage medical benefits are available for employees working at least 25 hours/week after completing a 60-day probationary period.
