What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Medical Assistant position at Bethesda Modern Primary Care?
Certified Medical Assistant
Part-Time, Hourly · 24–26 hrs/week
Bethesda Modern Primary Care | Bethesda, MD
Bethesda Modern Primary Care is a solo-physician, membership-based direct primary care practice built on the idea that good medicine takes time. We're looking for a Certified Medical Assistant to be the clinical backbone of a small, high-touch practice — someone who can draw blood cleanly, put patients at ease, and hold real responsibility from day one.
About the Practice
Founded in October 2025 by Dr. Nadia Khan Sirdar, MD, MPH, BMPC is a direct primary care practice focused on preventive care and healthy aging, with a particular emphasis on perimenopause and menopause management for women in midlife. As a membership practice with a deliberately small panel, we see fewer patients and spend more time with each one — quality over volume is the operating principle here, not a slogan.
About the Role
This part-time, hourly role is built for someone using clinical work as a bridge to what's next — most likely a pre-medical, pre-PA, or gap-year candidate preparing to apply to medical or PA school. You'll work directly alongside Dr. Sirdar and the practice team, with real patient contact and real responsibility, not shadowing. A year in, you should be someone Dr. Sirdar trusts to run a clean blood draw, calm a nervous patient, and represent the practice at an event without supervision.
What You'll Do
- Perform venipuncture and specimen collection/processing for outside lab work
- Room patients — vitals, history intake, visit preparation
- Support day-to-day clinical flow in a low-volume, high-touch practice
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation in Elation EHR
- Assist with occasional in-office and community events, including evenings and weekends (see Schedule below)
- Partner with the Practice Manager on supplies, scheduling, and patient logistics
What We're Looking For
Required
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA or RMA) credential
- Demonstrated venipuncture/phlebotomy competency — this is not something we'll train from scratch
- Reliable transportation and the ability to consistently commute to our Bethesda, MD office
- Availability for 24–26 hours/week, plus flexibility for occasional evening events (5:00–7:00 p.m., roughly 1–2x/month) and weekend events (7:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m., roughly 1–2x/month)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable representing the practice directly to patients and the public
- A hardworking, self-directed approach — this is a small team with real accountability, not a large practice you can blend into
Preferred
- Currently pre-medical, pre-PA, or in a gap year before applying to medical or PA school
- Patient-facing experience in dermatology, aesthetics/cosmetics, or a concierge/direct primary care practice
- Based in or near Bethesda, MD, with an easy, reliable commute
