JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Youth Support Specialist Overnights Classification: Full Time

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Division: Residential

Department: All Residential Living Units, Group Homes

Immediate Supervisor: Unit or Group Home Supervisor

Job Summary:

Provide behavioral and emotional support to at-risk teenagers in a residential setting.

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Conduct individual counseling with residents as needed.
  • Supervise the residents by conducting bed checks every 10 – 20 minutes and documenting the completed bed checks.
  • Coordinate unit morning routines for residents and follow clinical schedule.
  • Supervise the residents documenting activities and behaviors in progress notes and daily shift summaries.
  • Maintain client charts including daily filing, weekly database reviews and bi-weekly database audits.
  • Complete monthly requests for information to be sent to caseworkers.
  • Assist in maintaining unit cleanliness following established procedures and regulations including weekly washer sanitation.
  • Follow food safety standards by documenting refrigerator and freezer temperatures ensuring food is stored appropriately.
  • Manage resident’s medication according to residential policy and procedure.
  • Maintain safety by using behavior management techniques according to policy.
  • Assure Client/Staff ratio is maintained.

Professional Responsibilities:

  • Understand and fulfill job duties within the scope of the mission statement.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of the agency.
  • Maintain professional relationships with agency personnel, medical personnel and outside agencies.
  • Meet with supervisor biweekly for one-on-one supervision.
  • Act as a positive role model for residents by maintaining a professional demeanor and ethical behavior at all times.
  • Fulfill training requirements as outlined in the Staff Development policy and as required by the supervisor and/or the program.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multitask while maintaining a positive demeanor during periods of increased demands on time and attention from multiple residents.
  • Possess effective communication skills, both verbal and written. This includes the ability to converse with residents and families of various socioeconomic backgrounds in a professional manner.
  • Ability to de-escalate an emotionally charged or potentially violent situation using the least restrictive method possible.

Required Education, Experience and Clearances:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in human services or related field is preferred. High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Experience working with at-risk teens in a treatment setting is preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • FBI, Child Abuse History, PA State Police, and Driver Clearances.

Physical Demands:

  • Lifting requirement of less than 20lbs on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to actively participate in recreational activities.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle to provide transportation for residents to appointments, home visits, etc.
  • Ability to perform a physical intervention which requires the strength to grasp, hold and maneuver a resident into various positions involving standing, sitting, kneeling and laying.
