Responsibilities
- Assist nursing staff with patient care activities such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility support using equipment like Hoyer lifts and other assistive devices.
- Monitor and record vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates accurately using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Cerner or eClinicalWorks.
- Support patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), ensuring their comfort and dignity are maintained at all times.
- Prepare patients for medical procedures by ensuring proper positioning and maintaining aseptic techniques during treatments like catheter care or phlebotomy.
- Observe and report changes in patient condition promptly to nursing staff, especially in critical care units such as ICU or trauma centers.
- Maintain clean and safe environments by adhering to infection control protocols, including infectious disease precautions and HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.
- Assist with medical documentation and ensure accurate recording of patient information in medical records.
- Support specialized care needs such as dementia or Alzheimer's care, memory care units, behavioral health support, or pediatric assistance when applicable.
- Operate medical equipment safely and efficiently, including oxygen delivery systems or mobility aids like Hoyer lifts.
- Collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams in settings ranging from outpatient clinics to inpatient hospital units and post-acute care facilities.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a certified Nursing Assistant program is preferred.
- Valid certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) or equivalent credential required where applicable.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations including seniors, individuals with developmental disabilities, or those requiring specialized memory or dementia care is highly valued.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or eClinicalWorks for accurate medical documentation.
- Knowledge of vital signs measurement, anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, aseptic techniques, and basic life support (BLS).
- Prior experience in healthcare settings such as hospitals (including ICU or trauma centers), long-term care facilities (nursing homes or assisted living), hospice or palliative care environments is advantageous.
- Ability to work effectively with children and adults across outpatient, inpatient, home & community-based services, or behavioral health programs.
- Strong interpersonal skills to provide compassionate patient service while working collaboratively with healthcare teams.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift patients safely using assistive devices like Hoyer lifts, and perform routine tasks involving mobility support.
