JOB SUMMARY
As a Medical Technician (Med Tech) in an assisted living facility, you play a crucial role in providing compassionate and high-quality care to residents. Your responsibilities encompass various aspects of healthcare support, including medication management, resident assistance, and collaboration with healthcare professionals to ensure the well-being of residents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Medication Management:
- Administer medications to residents according to prescribed dosages, schedules, and routes of administration.
- Monitor residents for any adverse reactions or side effects to medications and promptly report concerns to the appropriate healthcare personnel.
- Maintain accurate records of medication administration, including dosage, time, and resident response.
- Resident Assistance:
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting, while promoting independence and dignity.
- Provide emotional support and companionship to residents, fostering a caring and supportive environment.
- Help residents with mobility needs, including transferring, positioning, and ambulation assistance as necessary.
- Healthcare Collaboration:
- Communicate effectively with healthcare professionals, including nurses, physicians, and therapists, regarding resident care plans and health status updates.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement personalized care plans for residents, addressing their unique needs and preferences.
- Participate in resident assessments and contribute valuable insights to the development and modification of care plans.
- Emergency Response:
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies and provide first aid or CPR as needed, following established protocols and procedures.
- Maintain knowledge of emergency response protocols and participate in regular training sessions to ensure readiness and preparedness.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Document observations, interventions, and resident responses accurately and comprehensively in resident charts or electronic health records (EHR).
- Report any significant changes in resident condition or behavior to supervisory staff promptly, ensuring timely and appropriate follow-up actions.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training or certification as a Certified Medication Aide (CMA) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
- Proven experience in a healthcare or assisted living setting, with demonstrated proficiency in medication administration and resident care.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, medication management protocols, and infection control practices.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, and healthcare team members.
- Compassion, patience, and empathy in caring for elderly or disabled individuals.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, multitask efficiently, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Adherence to ethical standards and confidentiality requirements governing healthcare information.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
