Position Title: Medical Assistant / Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN Preferred)

 

Bethel Family Clinic is seeking a dependable, compassionate, and team-oriented Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to support medical providers in the care and treatment of patients. This position may be filled by a qualified Medical Assistant or LPN; however, an active LPN license is preferred. The Medical Assistant/LPN assists providers with patient care, clerical needs, environmental and organizational tasks, patient flow, documentation, and coordination of care in a busy outpatient clinic setting.

 

Position Qualifications:

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required. Successful completion of post-high school training through a vocational, medical assistant, nursing, or other approved healthcare training program is required.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of family practice, primary care, outpatient clinic, or comparable healthcare experience as a Medical Assistant, LPN, or similar clinical support role is preferred.
  • Licenses, Certifications: Current Alaska Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license is preferred. Medical Assistant certification, registration, or completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program is acceptable. X-ray certification is preferred when applicable to assigned duties.
  • Specialized Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, knowledge of medical terminology, knowledge of safety and sanitation practices, computer skills, accurate documentation skills, and strong customer service skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Active LPN license strongly preferred. Experience with electronic health record data entry, phlebotomy, immunizations, point-of-care testing, medication reconciliation, patient education, and working in a community health center or rural healthcare setting is preferred.

 

Position Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Record patient history and personal information accurately and confidentially.
  • Measure and record vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature, oxygen saturation, height, weight, and other information as assigned.
  • Help providers with patient examinations, procedures, treatments, and follow-up care.
  • Schedule patient appointments, assist with referrals, and support patient follow-up as directed.
  • Prepare blood samples, specimens, and other laboratory materials for testing in accordance with clinic procedures.
  • Administer injections, including immunizations, allergy shots, ect.
  • Procedures, including Ear irrigations, dressing changes
  • Enter patient information into medical records and maintain timely, accurate, and complete documentation.
  • Assist with medication reconciliation, patient education, immunizations, point-of-care testing, and other clinical duties within the employee’s training, certification, licensure, and scope of practice.
  • Coordinate with providers, nurses, and other clinic staff to support efficient patient flow and high-quality patient care.
  • Medical Assistants and LPNs take and record patients’ personal information. They must be able to keep that information confidential and discuss it only with medical personnel who are involved in treating or coordinating care for the patient.

 

Other Duties:

  • Help patients move safely around the facility, including assisting with wheelchairs or other mobility needs.
  • Clean equipment and facilities in accordance with infection control and sanitation standards.
  • Sanitize and prepare exam rooms for patient visits.
  • Maintain and stock supplies to support daily clinic operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that support patient care, clinic operations, and the mission of Bethel Family Clinic.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Physical demands are generally described as medium work, including the ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. The Medical Assistant/LPN must be able to observe safe practice criteria in assisting patients and must be able to safely support the full weight of a patient when necessary.

 

  • Medical Assistants and LPNs work in well-lighted, clean clinical environments. They constantly interact with patients, families, providers, and other members of the care team and may need to handle several responsibilities at once. Most full-time employees in this role work a regular 40-hour week; schedules may vary based on clinic needs.

 

Supervisory:

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
