Bethany Athletic Club's new childcare center, Bkids, seeks an Assistant Teacher to join the Bkids team! The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising, nurturing, and caring for children from 6 weeks – 5 years old. This individual is expected to, among other things, welcome children each day, engage in crafts and activities, change diapers, and ensure the safety of all children.
Schedule: Varies - Position is on-call as needed to support the needs of the center. Center Hours are 7am-5:30pm.
Pay: $20.00 - $20.50 / Hour

Main Responsibilities:
- Provide classroom coverage and support for teachers during breaks, absences, or meetings.
- Engage with children during play, routines, and learning activities, offering appropriate guidance and interaction based on age and developmental needs.
- Support classroom routines including transitions, mealtimes, nap/rest time, and outdoor or gross motor play.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment across multiple classrooms.
- Communicate with teachers to understand and follow established routines and expectations.
- Assist with classroom prep, material organization, and day-to-day tasks.
- Build positive relationships with children, families, and staff through friendly and professional interactions.
- Adapt to changing needs and priorities throughout the day while supporting multiple age groups.
- Follow all program policies, licensing requirements, and health and safety standards.
Qualifications:
- At least 18 years of age
- Certified in CPR/First Aid
- Highly motivated
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A strong attention to detail, a high level of organization, and a willing team player
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree (BS/BA) from college or university with a major in:
- Early childhood education
- Child development
- Elementary education
- Special education
- Associate degree (AS/AA) from a college with a major in:
- Early childhood education
- Child development
- A one-year state or nationally recognized credential related to preschool-age care.
- Completion of 20 credits (semester system) or 30 credits (quarter system) of training at a college or university in:
- Early childhood education
- Child Development
- Elementary education
- Special education
- AND at least one year of qualifying teacher experience* in a Certified Child Care Center or comparable group care program, in the care of preschool-age children
- At least two years of qualifying teaching experience, with at least one year as a teacher, in a Certified Child Care Center or comparable group care program, in the care of preschool-age children
- Documentation of attending at least Step 8.5 in the Oregon Registry
Training:
- Head teachers must have completed OCC approved health and safety training (before having unsupervised access to children)
- Have completed a minimum of two hours of training on child abuse and neglect that is specific to Oregon law before they can have unsupervised access to children.
- If the center is certified to care for infants, the head teacher must have completed OCC approved safe sleep training.
