What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substitute Teacher position at BETHANY ATHLETIC CLUB LLC?

Bethany Athletic Club's new childcare center, Bkids, seeks an Assistant Teacher to join the Bkids team! The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising, nurturing, and caring for children from 6 weeks – 5 years old. This individual is expected to, among other things, welcome children each day, engage in crafts and activities, change diapers, and ensure the safety of all children. 

Schedule: Varies - Position is on-call as needed to support the needs of the center. Center Hours are 7am-5:30pm. 

Pay: $20.00 - $20.50 / Hour 

Job Type: On-Call 

Main Responsibilities: 

  • Provide classroom coverage and support for teachers during breaks, absences, or meetings.  
  • Engage with children during play, routines, and learning activities, offering appropriate guidance and interaction based on age and developmental needs.  
  • Support classroom routines including transitions, mealtimes, nap/rest time, and outdoor or gross motor play.  
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment across multiple classrooms.  
  • Communicate with teachers to understand and follow established routines and expectations.  
  • Assist with classroom prep, material organization, and day-to-day tasks.  
  • Build positive relationships with children, families, and staff through friendly and professional interactions.  
  • Adapt to changing needs and priorities throughout the day while supporting multiple age groups.  
  • Follow all program policies, licensing requirements, and health and safety standards. 

Qualifications: 

  • At least 18 years of age 
  • Certified in CPR/First Aid 
  • Highly motivated 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • A strong attention to detail, a high level of organization, and a willing team player 

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BS/BA) from college or university with a major in: 
    • Early childhood education 
    • Child development 
    • Elementary education 
    • Special education 
  • Associate degree (AS/AA) from a college with a major in: 
    • Early childhood education 
    • Child development  
  • A one-year state or nationally recognized credential related to preschool-age care. 
  • Completion of 20 credits (semester system) or 30 credits (quarter system) of training at a college or university in: 
    • Early childhood education 
    • Child Development 
    • Elementary education 
    • Special education 
  • AND at least one year of qualifying teacher experience* in a Certified Child Care Center or comparable group care program, in the care of preschool-age children 
  • At least two years of qualifying teaching experience, with at least one year as a teacher, in a Certified Child Care Center or comparable group care program, in the care of preschool-age children 
  • Documentation of attending at least Step 8.5 in the Oregon Registry 

Training: 

  • Head teachers must have completed OCC approved health and safety training (before having unsupervised access to children) 
  • Have completed a minimum of two hours of training on child abuse and neglect that is specific to Oregon law before they can have unsupervised access to children. 
  • If the center is certified to care for infants, the head teacher must have completed OCC approved safe sleep training
