What are the responsibilities and job description for the Camp Counselor position at Beth El Day Camp?
Counselors will:
- Ensure a safe and respectful environment for campers and staff members.
- Participate in all children's activities throughout the day.
- Assist with children's arrival and dismissal.
- Supervise and organize activities of the group if the Head Counselor is out.
- Take children to camp Nurse, bathroom, and for water as needed.
- Assist in changing children in and out of swimsuits if necessary.
- Read aloud stories/books to children, organize games to keep campers engaged throughout the day/transitions between activities.
- Assist in a rotating schedule of snack "pick-up" and "return."
- Work with Camper Care Coordinator to ensure that children with food allergies are given the correct food.
- Serve campers lunch and provide second helpings as needed.
- Be willing to sit on the floor while participating in activities.
- Attend camper meet-and-greet before camp session begins.
- Attend staff orientations prior to the opening of Day Camp.
- Wear a bathing suit and swim while campers are in the pool (bring a bathing suit regardless of the weather).
- Remain at Beth El until the last child of the group is picked up.
- Take breaks as assigned by Head Counselor.
- Report any absences to Camp Director no later than June 1st.
- Be 16 years of age.
Hours: Varies by group:
8:20 A.M. - 12:30 P.M.
8:20 A.M. - 1:30 P.M.
8:20 A.M. - 2:30 P.M.
8:20 A.M. - 4:30 P.M.
Bi-Weekly Staff Meetings at 7:45am
Summer session dates: June 24 - Aug 16, 2024
Salary Range: $1,500 to $4,500 commensurate with length of work day and experience
