Description
The Hydro Test Technician will inspect and test welds, seams, and seals on manufactured and fabricated components, piping and vessels, using pressure and water to ensure there are zero leaks and that all quality standards are met. This position is also responsible for BETA’s chemical conversion process of our manufactured and fabricated components. Our Hydro Test Technicians work in a team environment but are also required to perform duties autonomously and with a quality first focus. Work hours are Monday – Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm with occasional overtime required and occasional Saturday.
Job Duties:
Hydro Testing:
- Inspect, test, and measure materials, products, installations, and work for conformance to specifications
- Reject products, materials, or equipment not meeting specifications
- Record inspection or test data, such as weights, temperatures, grades, or moisture content, and quantities inspected or graded
- Mark items with details such as grade or acceptance-rejection status
- Visually inspect welds
- Read gauge pressures
- Read blueprints and engineering drawings
- Recommend necessary corrective actions, based on inspection results
- Notify supervisor and Quality Team of quality and production issues
Chemical Processing:
- Using crane/hoist, dip unfinished products into chemical bath – products include, but are not limited to, vessels, rings, shells, recovery tanks, vessel doors, pipe kits, vessel carts
- Pump out run off tank when tanks are full
- Maintain Ph levels and correct volume of acid and chromate tanks adding chemicals and water when needed to remain compliant
- Maintain inventory of chemicals on hand, reordering when needed
- Complete environmental inspection reports as required by local, state and federal regulations
- Assist in hazardous material storage and disposal. Participate in annual training on proper handling of waste and hazardous materials
- Recommend necessary corrective actions to appropriate BETA staff
Requirements
Education and Experience Required:
- High School Diploma or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate
- Experience with basic hand and power tools and blueprint drawings
- Familiarity with chemical processes and ability to measure, weigh, and calculate formulas
- Previous experience in inspection or quality role helpful
- Forklift experience and crane/hoist experience preferred, will train
- Familiar with industrial safety environment and use of common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, welding helmet, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and hard hats (BETA will provide or reimburse)
- Physical Requirements – using hands to handle, control or feel objects and tools, ability to read written instructions, lift and/or move materials up to 50 pounds independently. Able to climb, bend, stoop, and reach
- Ability to distinguish colors between white and red/violet
