Starting Rate: $27.47 Full-Time 35hrs per week.

Summary Of Duties

The Transitional Age Youth (TAY) Team Leader oversees the daily operations of the Safe Space overnight drop-in center and provides direct supervision to on-site staff. This role is responsible for orienting new employees to the program's mission, goals, policies, and procedures, as well as monitoring and evaluating staff performance. The TAY Team Leader identifies and addresses issues related to resources and personnel management and supports the Program Director in preparing internal and external reports to ensure compliance with funding requirements. The Team Leader facilitates weekly staff meetings and provides ongoing training. A strong understanding of transitional-age youth, including mental health and substance use disorders, their symptoms, and rehabilitation approaches, is essential. The role requires the ability to build and maintain positive collaborative relationships within the community. The TAY Team Leader ensures the overall safety and well-being of all clients and supports access to services such as housing, treatment, financial benefits, legal assistance, and medical care through linkage and advocacy.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position is responsible for the oversight of TAY Support Specialists. Supervisory responsibilities of these direct reports include consistent coaching, feedback, & development, review & approval of timecards, and completing performance reviews & development plans.

Position Responsibilities

  • Initiates and maintains effective working relationships with all systems involved in providing services to the homeless youth.
  • Advocates for the unique service needs of homeless youth who possess no linkage to treatment and non-compliance with all systems of care.
  • Assesses client's capacity for independent community living, formulates individual service plans, links and monitors client participation in needed services.
  • Works with client to develop and enhance independent living skills and effective interpersonal communications, in order to achieve client's goals and objectives.
  • Works to develop and maintain effective formal and informal support networks including family, significant others and service providers.
  • Intervenes in crisis or pre-crisis situations to limit and contain problems
  • Oversees the monthly staffing schedule.
  • Compile, maintain and submit accurate and timely documentation in accordance with agency, county, and federal requirements and regulations.
  • Completes regular performance evaluation for staff.
  • Treats all clients and staff with dignity and respect and ensures that staff uphold the same standard.
  • Responds to crises as part of an on-call rotation and maintains availability by phone as needed.
  • Schedule and assigned duties are subject to change based on the needs of the program and the clients we serve.
  • Completes all trainings required by the agency.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or Associates degree and five (5) years full time paid human service experience in an approved mental health or social service agency and program management experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field plus two (2) years full time paid human service experience in an approved mental health or social service agency and program management experience preferred.
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates strong computer proficiency.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrates effective crisis management skills.
  • Maintains compliance with BestSelf HIPAA confidentiality guidelines.
  • Effectively engages with clients, staff, providers, and the general public.
  • Maintains appropriate personal and professional boundaries.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in working with diverse individuals, situations, challenges, and changes.
  • Requires knowledge of mental illness diagnoses, symptomatology, and engagement strategies.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with community resources, including entitlement programs, medical, financial, and legal services, supported housing and Section 8 programs, as well as mental health and addiction services.
  • Valid NYS Driver's License.
  • Must have accredited NYS Defensive Driving course; or obtain within 15 days of hire and send certification of completion to Human Resources.
  • Must maintain active NYS Defensive Driving course every 3 years and send a copy of the new certification of completion upon expiration.
  • Must maintain valid vehicle inspection, registration, and insurance cards and send updated copies to Human Resources upon expiration.
