SUMMARY OF DUTIES
The Financial Grants Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial management, reporting, and compliance of BestSelf grant-funded programs. This role assists in accurate budgeting, cost allocation, financial tracking, and regulatory compliance across all foundation and government funding sources. The position works closely with Program Directors and other operational leaders to align financial operations with programmatic goals and funder expectations.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Grant Budgeting & Financial Oversight:
- Collaborate with Program Directors and other operational leaders to understand program operations and funding structures.
- Develop and monitor grant budgets in accordance with regulatory requirements, and internal objectives, and in collaboration with the Finance team to ensure alignment with GAAP standards.
- Oversee cost and payroll allocations to ensure accuracy and consistency with grant terms.
- Reconcile grant receivables monthly and coordinate with funders to ensure timely reimbursements.
Grant Invoicing, Reporting & Compliance:
- Prepare and submit invoices, vouchers, and financial reports per funder schedules (monthly, quarterly, annually).
- Ensure alignment between grant deliverables and financial reporting; proactively manage financial aspects of grant modifications and amendments.
- Assist with annual audit preparation by compiling and verifying grant-related financial documentation.
- Maintain strong internal controls and uphold GAAP standards in all grant-related accounting practices.
Proposal & Budget Development Support:
- Assist with financial components of grant proposals, including budget creation and justification.
- Review proposal budgets with finance leadership to ensure consistency with institutional policies and applicable regulations.
- Coordinate financial documentation required for proposal submissions and ensure internal approvals are obtained.
Grant Lifecycle & Compliance Tracking & Other Duties:
- Maintain a master tracking system of active grants/contracts, deadlines, and payment/reimbursement status.
- Support program teams in grant reporting and compliance, including monitoring deliverables and coordinating closeout procedures.
- Stay current on regulatory changes affecting grant compliance; advise leadership on updates to policies and practices as needed.
- Completes all trainings required by the agency.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- Minimum 3-5 years of progressive experience in accounting, including at least 2 years working directly with grants and contracts.
- Knowledge of state and federal grant regulations and audit preparation preferred.
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams and external funding agencies.
- Strong understanding of nonprofit and grant accounting principles.
- Experience with budgeting, cost allocation, and financial compliance in a nonprofit or government-funded setting.
- Proficiency with accounting and grant management systems.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently anatomically.
