The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance tasks to ensure the physical structure and grounds of the hotel are maintained in excellent condition, including the safe and effective operation of the pool and hot tub.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Aquatic Facility Maintenance:
- Perform routine testing of pool and hot tub water chemistry (pH, chlorine/bromine, alkalinity) multiple times daily, ensuring levels meet local health and safety standards.
- Monitor, adjust, and add required chemicals to maintain balanced water quality.
- Backwash and clean pool/hot tub filters, check pump and motor functionality, and ensure all pool equipment is operating efficiently.
- Perform regular visual inspections of the pool deck, rails, ladders, and safety equipment to ensure cleanliness and integrity.
- Maintain detailed and accurate logs of all chemical readings, maintenance activities, and repairs.
Routine Repairs and Maintenance:
- Complete basic repairs in guest rooms and public areas, including patching and painting walls, and light carpentry.
- Change light bulbs and replace minor electrical fixtures.
- Perform minor plumbing repairs such as unclogging drains, fixing leaking faucets, and repairing running toilets.
Work Orders and Guest Requests:
- Promptly and courteously respond to all maintenance work orders and guest requests.
- Clearly communicate the status of repairs to the Front Desk or management team.
Preventative Maintenance (PM):
- Follow a scheduled preventative maintenance program for guest rooms and common areas.
- Inspect and maintain basic HVAC components, such as cleaning coils and replacing filters.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure all pool and hot tub operations strictly comply with local health department regulations and safety codes.
- Conduct regular tours of the property to identify and correct potential safety hazards.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- Experience: Previous experience in general maintenance, handyman work, or a related trade is highly desirable. Experience with pool/spa maintenance is a significant advantage.
Certification (Required/Preferred):
- Possession of or ability to obtain a relevant pool operator certification (e.g., Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO)) is required within a specified time frame (e.g., 90 days of hire).
Skills:
- Basic working knowledge of painting, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry.
- Proven ability to safely and accurately handle and measure pool chemicals.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift, push, and pull objects weighing up to 50 lbs regularly (including bags of pool salt/chemicals).
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work at heights for extended periods.
- Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and holidays.
