Position Summary:
The Assistant General Manager plays a critical role in supporting the General Manager with daily hotel operations, staff supervision, and guest satisfaction. This hands-on leadership position helps oversee front desk, housekeeping, breakfast, and maintenance teams to ensure smooth, efficient, and guest-focused operations. The AGM acts as the second-in-command, stepping in to make operational decisions and manage staff in the General Manager’s absence.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations & Guest Services
- Assist in managing daily hotel operations to ensure compliance with Best Western brand standards and company policies.
- Supervise front desk, housekeeping, breakfast, and maintenance teams, ensuring service excellence in all guest interactions.
- Respond to guest concerns, resolve complaints promptly, and create a welcoming, problem-solving atmosphere.
- Oversee daily room assignments, inspections, and overall readiness of guest rooms and public areas.
- Monitor breakfast operations to ensure quality, cleanliness, and timely service.
Leadership & Staff Management
- Assist with recruiting, hiring, training, and developing staff members.
- Create weekly work schedules and manage labor costs while maintaining adequate coverage.
- Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance management to team members.
- Foster a positive, collaborative workplace culture that prioritizes teamwork and accountability.
Administrative & Financial Support
- Assist the General Manager in preparing budgets, forecasts, and operational reports.
- Review daily revenue, occupancy, and expense reports to identify areas of opportunity.
- Ensure compliance with cash handling, payroll, and inventory procedures.
- Help manage vendor relationships, supply ordering, and cost control initiatives.
Compliance, Safety & Maintenance
- Ensure the property maintains health, safety, and security standards for guests and employees.
- Coordinate with maintenance to ensure preventative maintenance schedules are followed and repairs are handled promptly.
- Stay current on hospitality regulations, Best Western brand requirements, and local compliance mandates.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Minimum 2–3 years of hotel operations or supervisory experience; prior AGM or department head experience preferred.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
- Knowledge of hotel property management systems
- Flexible availability, including weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.
