Position Title: Route Driver
Reports to: Department Supervisor
Status: Non-Exempt
Primary Objective
The primary objective of the Route Driver is to clean portable toilets and transport the collected waste to approved disposal sites on the assigned route.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Servicing Portable Toilets:
- Clean and sanitize portable toilets according to company standards.
- Replenish supplies such as toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and deodorizing agents.
Inspect units for damage or maintenance needs and report findings.
- Route Management:
- Follow assigned routes and schedules to ensure timely servicing of all units.
- Maintain accurate records of completed stops, services performed, and any issues encountered.
- Communicate with dispatch or management regarding route changes or delays.
- Waste Collection and Disposal:
- Safely and efficiently pump out waste from portable toilets using vacuum equipment.
- Transport waste to approved disposal sites in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Maintain cleanliness of hoses and equipment to prevent cross-contamination.
- Vehicle Operation and Maintenance:
- Operate service trucks and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to identify any maintenance or safety concerns.
- Ensure vehicles are properly fueled, clean, and stocked with necessary tools and supplies.
- Customer Service:
- Interact professionally with customers while servicing units.
- Address customer inquiries or complaints and escalate unresolved issues to management.
- Compliance and Safety:
- Adhere to company policies, safety protocols, and regulations, including those governing hazardous materials.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during all service tasks.
- Report accidents, spills, or other incidents promptly to supervisors.
- Inventory and Supplies Management:
- Monitor and restock necessary supplies for route servicing.
- Track inventory levels and communicate restocking needs to the warehouse or manager.
- Emergency Response:
- Respond to urgent service calls or route adjustments as needed.
- Assist in relocating portable toilets during special events or emergencies.

Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid driver’s license.
- Clean driving record with no recent violations or accidents is required.
- Ability to pass DOT physical and drug testing requirements.
Experience:
- Previous experience in commercial driving or route-based service work is preferred.
- Familiarity with operating vacuum trucks and other related equipment is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Capable of performing tasks requiring bending, stooping, and climbing in and out of vehicles.
Technical Skills:
- Basic mechanical knowledge for conducting pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Ability to use GPS systems, mobile route apps, and other company-provided technology.
- Basic record-keeping and written communication skills.
Knowledge:
- Understanding of local, state, and federal regulations regarding waste disposal and transportation.
- Familiarity with safety protocols and proper handling of hazardous materials.
Soft Skills:
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
- Problem-solving skills to address route challenges or equipment issues.
