Title: Shipping Manager – Cross-Dock Operations
Reports to: Director of Warehouse Operations (Monte Neumeyer)
Location: Nashville (LaVergne)
Schedule: Night Shift (8:00 PM – 4:00 AM)
About the Role: Serve as the critical link between Nashville's 24-hour warehouse operations and our cross-dock facilities in Memphis, Knoxville, and Cleveland. Oversee all outbound freight loading operations, manage WMS-driven return freight logistics, and ensure seamless coordination of our distributed overflow inventory system. This role will evolve from managing single-market operations to supervising all night freight operations, drivers, and night warehouse crew. The ideal candidate will grow with the position as we implement our three-phase cross-dock transformation.
Key Responsibilities:
Freight Loading Operations:
- Supervise and validate loading of all cross-dock freight trailers and trucks.
- Ensure proper load sequencing for efficient cross-dock operations at destination.
- Verify all interfacility outbound shipping.
- Implement quality control checks to prevent loading errors.
- Maintain and coordinate dock times.
WMS Management & Return Freight Coordination:
- Review and approve daily WMS-generated return freight requirements from overflow locations.
- Prioritize return loads based on operational needs (Kegs → Wine/Spirits → Package Beer → Non-Alc).
- Monitor Nashville inventory levels to identify critical items needed from overflow storage.
- Coordinate with Day Operations Manager (Myers) on overflow inventory strategies.
Operational Planning:
- Develop nightly loading schedules to meet cross-dock arrival times.
- Coordinate with cross-dock facilities on special requirements or exceptions.
- Prepare contingency plans for weather, equipment failures, or capacity issues.
- Participate in implementation of Phase 1 (Memphis), Phase 2 (Knoxville), and Phase 3 (Cleveland).
Execute
Nightly Operations Management:
- Arrive at 8:00 PM to review night's requirements and WMS reports.
- Monitor picking operations to ensure freight staging stays on schedule.
- Supervise truck loading operations from 8:00 PM to 4:00 AM departures.
- Validate return freight requirements are communicated via WMS to all locations.
- Document any exceptions or issues for day shift follow-up.
- Ensure facility security and safety protocols during night operations.
Driver & Equipment Coordination: Initially: Coordinate with Memphis box truck driver (Phase 1).
- Eventually: Supervise all freight drivers and departure schedules (Phases 2-3).
- Ensure drivers have proper documentation and understand return requirements.
- Monitor driver hours of service and compliance with DOT regulations.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance schedules with minimal operational impact.
Team Leadership (Growth Role):
- Phase 1: Work independently with minimal night staff interaction.
- Phase 2-3: Supervise night warehouse crew operations.
- Train and develop night shift personnel on cross-dock procedures.
- Coordinate with Hayden and Antoine (Night Crew Co-Managers).
- Eventually manage a team of night shift employees.
Communication & Reporting:
- Document any inventory discrepancies or damage.
- Communicate urgent issues to Management
- Provide shift handoff notes for Day Operations Manager.
- Submit weekly performance reports on freight operations.
Basic Qualifications/Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 2 years warehouse operations experience preferred.
- Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
- Experience with inventory management and invoicing
- Ability to operate material handling equipment.
- Physical ability to lift 50 pounds and work in a warehouse environment.
- Comfortable working night shift hours (8:00 PM – 4:00 AM).
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in transportation, logistics, or cross-dock operations.
- Previous supervisory or team lead experience.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations and freight documentation.
- Experience with distributed inventory management.
- Familiarity with beverage distribution industry.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand/walk for extended periods (8 hours).
