Rail Manager – Industrial Rail Operations
Location: North Mobile, AL
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 6:00 AM–4:00 PM | On-call as needed
Compensation: $90,000–$95,000 base bonus
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Rail Manager to lead all internal rail operations at our Axis, Alabama site. This is a hands-on leadership role overseeing train movement, rail safety, infrastructure maintenance, and a large union/non-union workforce supporting a high-volume industrial operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate internal train scheduling and rail movements to meet operational and customer demands
- Oversee rail car securing, strapping, and weigh operations to ensure safety and load integrity
- Lead, develop, and manage a team of ~40 employees (rail operators, strappers, weigh masters)
- Enforce safety standards, conduct audits, and maintain strong housekeeping practices
- Oversee maintenance of rail infrastructure, including tracks, signals, and rolling stock
- Develop and manage operating and maintenance budgets; identify cost-reduction opportunities
- Handle customer inquiries and service issues professionally and efficiently
- Track and report KPIs including safety incidents, on-time performance, and maintenance metrics
- Support long-term planning, continuous improvement, and operational efficiency initiatives
Qualifications
- 7 years of management or supervisory experience in rail operations
- Strong working knowledge of railroad operations, safety regulations, and best practices
- Proven ability to lead large hourly teams in an industrial or transportation environment
- Strong decision-making, organizational, and communication skills
- Comfortable using scheduling, reporting, and maintenance tracking systems
- Willingness to work flexible hours as required
- Ability to pass drug screening and physical
