POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp. Plans and implements daily recreational, social development, educational and cultural activities for groups of children. Fosters an environment of small community living. Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervises a group of children under YMCA policies for supervision at all times.
  • Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values. Participates in all camp activities.
  • Maintains safety at all times. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  • Maintains positive relations with campers, parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children preferably in a day camp setting
  • Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc…
  • At least 18 years of age
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Must be dependable, able to make sound decisions outside of direct supervision and available to work for the duration of summer.
  • Must possess a professional demeanor with the ability to act and work as a team with other camp staff.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
