Job Description

The Transport Planner plans, schedules, and dispatches outbound shipments delivered by the company’s own fleet of box trucks. This role owns the daily route and delivery schedule, assigns drivers and vehicles, confirms customer delivery appointments, and tracks shipments through proof of delivery. The Transport Planner works closely with warehouse outbound teams, drivers, fleet maintenance, and Client Services to ensure every load departs on time, is delivered accurately, and meets committed service levels.

YOUR TASKS

• Plan and schedule daily outbound shipments and delivery routes for the company-owned box truck fleet.
• Build daily and weekly dispatch schedules, sequencing stops by customer delivery window, service level, and geography.
• Assign drivers and vehicles to routes, balancing hours-of-service limits, truck capacity, and driver availability. 
• Confirm delivery appointments with customers and receiving sites; communicate schedule changes, delays, and exceptions promptly
• Coordinate with the warehouse outbound team so orders are picked, staged, and loaded in time for scheduled departures
• Track trucks in transit, monitor departure and delivery performance, and re-route or re-schedule when disruptions occur.
• Prepare and maintain shipping documentation, including bills of lading, packing lists, delivery receipts, and proof of delivery.
• Arrange third-party carrier coverage when volume exceeds fleet capacity, and verify rates, transit times, and service commitments.
• Report on transportation KPIs such as on-time delivery, fleet utilization, stops and miles per route, and cost per delivery.
• Support fleet readiness by tracking preventive maintenance, DOT inspections, fuel, and vehicle availability with the fleet lead. 
• Communicate with drivers, warehouse supervisors, and Client Services on delivery issues; address and resolve discrepancies related to scheduling, routing, and shipment execution.

Qualifications

• TMS and/or WMS experience; prior experience in transportation scheduling, dispatch, or route planning
• Working knowledge of DOT and FMCSA requirements, including hours-of-service rules  
• Perform accurately under stressful conditions.  
• Microsoft Office Proficient
• Customer-oriented, professional communication skills
• Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• The ability to follow instructions, processes, and procedures; ability to multitask
• Flexibility is a must: Must be able to work overtime, holidays, weekends, and different shifts to support delivery schedules  

Preferred Qualifications / Skills: 

• Previous experience dispatching or planning routes for a private or dedicated delivery fleet 
• Knowledge of SAP and routing/telematics tools pertaining to transportation activities  
• B.A. degree or equivalent work experience
