Elementary School Counselor
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must hold a current Arkansas Department of Education Counselor’s teaching license.
- Must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter as well as all other areas of responsibility including law and local policy.
- Must be computer literate with at least the ability to send and receive email, produce memos, navigate the Internet and eSchool as required by position responsibilities, accurately complete and submit program applications, forms, etc.
- Must be able to read and comprehend written instructions, policies, and procedures.
- Must be attentive to details, a self-starter, able to work effectively without constant or direct supervision. Must be able to a multi-task.
- Must be of good moral character and strictly follow the Code of Ethics for Arkansas Administrators.
- Must have good communication and organizational skills.
GENERAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (but not limited to):
- Adhere to and support federal and state law, school board policy, and other school guidelines including administrative rules and guidelines.
- Be available as needed for counseling at all times.
- Be involved in parent/teacher/student conferences as needed.
- Aid teachers in becoming aware of individual student academic, social, or physical needs.
- Assist with interim assessments and state standardized testing.
- Be able to interpret test results to school administrators, teachers, students, and parents.
- Be available to serve on committees, both campus and district-wide.
- Help process referrals and appropriate placement.
- Coordinate volunteer activities including training of volunteers.
- Assist with developing the master schedule, student registration, and student class placement.
- Assist parents and students when enrolling and dropping school.
- Correct any student schedule or eSchool errors in a timely fashion. Work collaboratively with the District eSchool Coordinator.
- Develop and present small or large group guidance and character education activities.
- Practice punctual, timely, and accurate completion of required records and reports, and appropriate use of planning time.
- Demonstrate tact and effective communication skills when dealing with others.
- Demonstrate consistent cooperation and professionalism when dealing with others.
- The counselor will exercise confidentiality, discretion, and appropriate use of language when working with students.
- Perform other duties as assigned by principal.
