What are the responsibilities and job description for the District Nurse position at Berryessa Union School District?
DUTIES: Provides school health and nursing services to students; promotes health, prevention and safety education; refers students, parents or guardians to appropriate community resources for recommended health service programs; participates in health related Individual Educational Program (IEP) meetings for the assessment and placement of Special Education students; performs immunization, and communicable disease assessments as well as health screenings.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess a current valid California State License at the level of a Registered Nurse; School Nurse Services Credential issued by the California Commission on Teaching Credentialing; School Audiometry certificate; valid First Aid and CPR certification. Must be able to work with an increasing number of students requiring daily diabetes management, seizure emergency medications, and other health plans or procedures to keep safe while at school. Must have knowledge of medication effects and proper administration procedures; proper operation of specialized health assessment instruments; modern medical terminology, equipment and techniques; accepted methods and principles of personal hygiene; diagnostic methods for medical conditions and diseases; IEP requirements; accepted testing techniques for hearing, vision, scoliosis and other screenings; public health agencies and local health care resources; health and safety regulations; modern office practices, procedures and equipment, including use of a PC and district adopted software. Must possess interpersonal skills and ability to be tactful, patient and courteous; effective oral and written communication skills; physical demands of the job include stooping/crouching, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity. Must possess a valid California driver’s license; tuberculin clearance and criminal justice fingerprint clearance and personal transportation for job-related travel.
