Accounts Payable Accountant

We are seeking an organized, detail-oriented accounting professional to join our Finance team as an Accounts Payable Accountant. This role helps protect the financial health of Berry Home Centers by ensuring vendor transactions are accurate, timely, and properly recorded. The ideal candidate demonstrates sound accounting knowledge, strong judgment, unquestioned integrity, and a commitment to accuracy, continuous improvement, and exceptional internal service.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply sound accounting principles while processing vendor invoices, payment requests, and accounts payable transactions accurately, confidentially, and on time.
- Review invoices and supporting documentation for proper approvals, coding, pricing, quantities, and compliance with company procedures.
- Process a high volume of vendor invoices while maintaining exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
- Reconcile vendor statements and general ledger accounts, research discrepancies, and communicate effectively with vendors and internal team members to resolve issues.
- Prepare vendor payments in accordance with company policies and payment schedules.
- Support month-end and year-end closing activities by ensuring accounts payable transactions are complete, accurate, and properly recorded.
- Maintain organized electronic records that support our paperless accounting processes.
- Actively contribute to the continuous improvement of accounting processes, documentation, and internal controls.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism while handling sensitive financial information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; five years of accounts payable or general accounting experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong understanding of general accounting principles and accounts payable best practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to research and resolve discrepancies.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, along with experience using QuickBooks. Ability to quickly learn additional business software and ERP systems, including Microsoft Dynamics and Sage.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Professional communication skills with a collaborative, service-oriented approach.
