What are the responsibilities and job description for the Marine Deputy - Seasonal/Temporary position at Berrien County?
NOTE:

This seasonal position allows for a maximum of 1,000 hours per calendar year. It does not include any benefits.
Training for new deputies will begin the first week of May.
Patrols will begin with the Memorial Day holiday and end with the Labor Day holiday.
DUTIES:
Under the supervision of the Marine Lieutenant and/or Marine Sergeant, enforces the Marine Safety Act on Berrien County’s waterways.
Performs patrols and safety checks, search and rescues and possible body recoveries.
Issues citations and warnings and processes accidents.
Deputies will be responsible for the proper maintenance of the Marine Unit’s fleet, including boats, engines, trailers, and vehicles.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must be 18 years of age and out of high school at least one year prior to the start of the boating season.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must successfully pass a complete background check and swim test.
Hours are based on a 40-hour workweek and are weather dependent.
Deputies will be required to work weekends with holidays mandatory.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Able to work well with others, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Prior boating knowledge and a mechanical aptitude are desired.
