We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support the Controller and function in an Assistant Controller–level role within our accounting department. This position plays a critical role in the firm’s financial management, reporting, and analysis. Prior law firm accounting experience and/or advanced Aderant expertise is required.
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting skills, payroll knowledge, and the ability to perform detailed profitability analysis by department and client/matter in a fast-paced legal environment. This is a full-time, in-office position.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Controller with day-to-day accounting operations and financial management
- Perform Assistant Controller-level responsibilities, including oversight of general ledger activities and internal controls
- Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Develop and deliver profitability reporting by practice group, department, and client/matter, including trend and variance analysis
- Analyze billing, realization, utilization, and cost data to support management decision-making
- Work extensively within Aderant for accounting, billing, reporting, and financial analysis
- Oversee payroll processing and administration; ensure accuracy and compliance
- Maintain compliance with law firm accounting requirements, including IOLTA.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives
- Support external audits, tax preparation, and regulatory reporting
- Identify opportunities to improve reporting accuracy, internal controls, and operational efficiency
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Law firm accounting experience OR significant hands-on experience with Aderant (required)
- Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and month-end close
- Experience preparing profitability and management reporting
- Payroll experience in a professional services environment
- Ability to work full-time in an in-office professional setting
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ADP payroll systems
- Prior Assistant Controller or senior-level accounting experience
- CPA or progress toward certification
- Experience supporting practice group or client financial analysis in a law firm environment

The successful candidate's salary is $100,000 to $120,000, reasonably expected to be set within this range; however, actual compensation will depend on a variety of factors, including, without limitation, the candidate's qualifications and experience. The range listed is for someone who meets the required qualifications listed within the job ad.
