Legal Billing Specialist
Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Legal Billing Specialist to join our Billing team. This role focuses on preparing and processing invoices, maintaining accurate records, and supporting day-to-day billing operations in coordination with attorneys and Accounting.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, edit, and finalize client invoices based on attorney direction
- Process pre-bills and implement requested revisions accurately and timely manner
- Submit invoices through traditional and electronic methods as required
- Maintain client and matter billing information, including rates and billing instructions
- Track invoice status and ensure timely processing through the billing cycle
- Setup of client insurance portals
- Perform quality control on scanned documents to ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper filing
- Maintain organized electronic billing files, including saving, naming, and document management
- Update billing trackers and assist with routine reporting as needed
- Assist with basic troubleshooting of invoice submission issues, escalating as needed
- Support collection efforts as directed
- Provide general support and assist with other duties as assigned
Skills & Competencies
- Working knowledge of law firm billing processes and workflows
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Familiarity with LEDES and Legal insurance billing
- Strong attention to detail, particularly in document review and data accuracy
- Organized and able to manage routine tasks with consistency and timeliness
- Ability to follow established processes and escalate issues appropriately
- Strong communication skills and team-oriented mindset
Requirements
- 3–5 years of law firm or professional services billing experience
- Experience with billing systems (e.g., Aderant, Sierra) and/or e-billing platforms preferred
- Familiarity with pre-bills, invoice processing, and standard billing workflows
The successful candidate's hourly rate for this position is $30 to $35 per hour, reasonably expected to be set within this range; however, actual compensation will depend on a variety of factors, including, without limitation, the candidate's qualifications and experience.
