JOB TITLE: School Nurse
QUALIFICATION:
o Valid state nurse certification
o Registered nurse
REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB DESCRIPTION: The school nurse/health educator provides the leadership in
planning and implementing health and educational services in
cooperation with the administrative staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Serves as health advocate for the student
o Assesses and evaluates the health and developmental status of students to identify
specific physical conditions
o Assesses and arranges appropriate management and referrals for children with
health problems
o Assists parents in assuming greater responsibility for health maintenance of the
child
o Assists students in assuming some responsibility for their own health maintenance
o Assists in identifying, evaluating, and receiving historical information on
handicapped children
o Provides emergency health services
o Contributes to health maintenance, control and prevention of illness and accidents
o Maintains a health record for each student, and state mandated immunizations
o Communicates information to students, parents, staff, physicians, and other health
related personnel
o Participates with staff in developing and implementing school health program
o Responsible for own professional growth
o Performs related responsibilities as required by the principal
