POSITION TITLE: MUSIC INSTRUCTOR
SUPERVISOR: Director of Music Operations & Director of Music Performance
WORK YEAR/WEEKS: 12 month
HOURS/DAYS OF JOB: Hours assigned by supervisor, may include nights and/or weekends
EMPLOYMENT: Salary - Exempt
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The Music Instructor, under the guidance of the Director of Music Operations & the Director of Music Performance supports individuals in learning a wide variety of music, life, and professional skills. Performance skills are integrated into lessons, concerts, and other performance opportunities. Music instructors are responsible for providing high quality music instruction and support to individuals at BHMA.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION
- Provide instruction to individuals, ensembles, and group classes
- Lead or co-lead one of BHMA’s ensembles to include running rehearsals
- Develop, arrange, and teach repertoire, based on individual or group interests
- Adjust instrumentation, styles, and content to the strengths each participant in lessons
- Work to enhance the musicality and the performance presentation of participants
- Participate in the timely development and documentation of individuals’ goals as related to music services
- Communicate with other BHMA staff via email, Blackbaud or in person, to provide effective supports
- Complete attendance and other requested documentation for billing
- Evaluate the musicality of potential admissions candidates, if requested
- Attend ISP, IEP and/or family meetings and staff meetings as needed
- Set up, break down, and transport gear as needed
- Supervise and support individuals at gigs, community outings, and performances
- Represent BHMA in a professional manner on campus and in the community
- Transport individuals to gigs, outings, or other community locations as needed
- Facilitate individuals’ understanding of music as a vehicle to independent activities and enhancing life and vocational skills
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS
- Work independently as well as a member of a team
- Ability to adapt to the flexible nature of the position
- Attend occasional late and/or weekend gigs
- Maintain positive work attitude
- Attend family meetings, graduation, special events, and activities as requested
- Certified in or willing to obtain MA state Medication Administration Program (MAP) certification, CPR, First Aid, and other certification requirements as mandated by BHMA and its associated agencies.
- Attend all mandatory staff trainings within applicable timelines
- Other duties as directed by supervisor or CEO
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's Degree preferred
- Experience with and sensitivity to individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities strongly preferred
