Starbase is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented part-time Cultivation Technician to join our team full-time at our state-of-the-art cannabis cultivation facility in Topsham, Maine. This role is essential to maintaining the health and productivity of our plants, as well as preparing our high-quality products for market. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a strong work ethic, capable of working effectively with limited supervision and possessing a foundational understanding of plant care and basic equipment troubleshooting.
This part-time position may need to work on weekends. Qualified candidates must be able to maintain a flexible schedule pending business needs.
Essential Duties
CULTIVATION
- Perform all tasks related to the cannabis plant life cycle, including but not limited to:
- Cloning and propagation
- Transplanting seedlings and mature plants
- Watering, feeding, and nutrient application according to precise schedules and protocols
- Pruning, defoliating, and trellising plants to optimize growth and yield
- Monitoring plant health, identifying and reporting any signs of pests, diseases, or nutrient deficiencies
- Maintaining optimal environmental conditions within cultivation rooms (temperature, humidity, CO2 levels)
- Assisting with harvesting, de-leafing, and preparing plants for drying and curing
- Following Integrated Pest Management (IPM) procedures diligently.
POST-HARVEST & PACKAGING DUTIES
- Accurately and efficiently produce pre-rolls, including grinding flower, weighing, and rolling according to strict quality and consistency standards.
- Package dried flower products, ensuring accurate weights, proper sealing, and correct labeling in compliance with all state regulations.
- Package pre-rolled products, ensuring proper sealing, accurate labeling, and adherence to all child-resistant and tamper-evident packaging requirements.
- Maintain meticulous records of all production and packaging activities.
FACILITY MAINTENANCE & TROUBLESHOOTING
- Perform regular cleaning and sanitization of all cultivation rooms, equipment, and tools to maintain a sterile and compliant environment.
- Troubleshoot basic equipment issues such as lights not coming on, pumps tripping, or minor HVAC concerns, and report more complex problems to management promptly.
- Ensure all tools and equipment are properly maintained and calibrated.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adhere strictly to all company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, and Maine Office of Cannabis Policy (OCP) regulations.
- Maintain accurate inventory and other data entry as required by seed-to-sale tracking systems.
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment.
- Demonstrate a commitment to safety first in all tasks.
- Work rotating weekends as part of a full-time schedule.
Minimum Qualifications
- Reliable transportation; Ability to drive to and from work for on-time arrivals and departures, as well as traveling to additional Starbase locations as needed.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Maine Office of Cannabis Policy Individual Identification Card (IIC).
- Prior experience in horticulture, agriculture, or a related field is preferred, but not required. We are willing to train motivated individuals.
- Basic understanding of plant biology and general cultivation practices.
- Ability to troubleshoot basic mechanical and electrical issues.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in repetitive tasks.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision and as part of a team.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods, walk throughout the facility, bend, stoop, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly.
- Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including elevated temperatures and humidity, and willingness to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as scrubs, hairnets, and Tyvek suits.
