Job Opportunity: 

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Lawyers Professional Liability underwriter to join our team based in our NY office.  We are looking for a hard-working teammate who values collaborative culture and is focused on building a portfolio based on profitability over top-line growth.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Continue to establish BHSI’s presence as a leader in the LPL market 
• Establish, develop, and expand broker and customer relationships 
• Underwrite complex and challenging risks while developing creative solutions for our partners
• Execute on underwriting strategy focused on profitable growth of the overall portfolio
• Be a positive reflection on the company by demonstrating integrity and leadership in the marketplace 
• Effectively communicate BHSI’s value proposition to brokers and customers 
• Work closely with our in-house claims team to help create a positive and transparent experience for our customers 
• Collaborate with teammates across all product lines
• Up to 30% travel will be required

 Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• 5-10 years of experience underwriting Lawyers Professional Liability or other industry related experience
• Strong technical skills in Lawyers Professional Liability
• Experienced marketing to large, specialized brokers
• Proven client development experience
• Collaborative and team-focused mentality
• Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
• BA/BS degree or equivalent experience

The base salary range for this position is $110,000 to $175,000, along with annual bonus eligibility.   Total compensation for a candidate is determined by their relevant skills, location, and experience.  We value our teammates – both their capabilities and character – as demonstrated by our amazing culture.
