Berkshire Food Co-op Team Members are the public face of the Co-op, providing friendly customer service while supporting efficient department operations. Café Team Members help create and maintain a vibrant, customer-focused environment by preparing quality sandwiches, wraps, and beverages and maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the department. They contribute to a positive workplace culture that encourages ownership, accountability, and a welcoming guest experience. Café Team Members work collaboratively to uphold high standards for service, food quality, and visual presentation while supporting the collective goals, Ends, Vision, Culture, and Values of the Co-op.
Qualifications:
Customer Service
- Support the daily operations of the Café Department by preparing and serving fresh, high-quality food and beverages in a welcoming, customer-focused environment. Responsibilities include food preparation tasks such as washing produce, cooking, and serving food and drinks, as well as other duties assigned by the Fresh Foods Manager or Café Assistant Manager
- Work effectively with customers, vendors and team members in a high volume setting, providing exceptional service standards through a proactive approach
- Assist customers with product selection and ingredient information, offering recommendations as needed
- Process customer orders while ensuring dietary restrictions and special requests are accurately accommodated, and follow established procedures requiring proof of payment prior to order pickup
- Providing feedback on the efficiency of the customer service process
- Ensure that deli displays are regularly replenished and rotated according to current par and inventory levels
- Keep food prep, storage, and display areas maintained and in a clean, orderly condition meeting health department and BFC standards; all menu items must be labeled with ingredients and date produced
Production & Maintenance
- Follow established recipes, production techniques, department systems, SOPs, and guidelines to ensure consistency, quality, and service expectations are consistently met
- Maintain compliance with established operational and production procedures, as well as all applicable regulatory standards, while ensuring products are consistently prepared and presented in accordance with Co-op quality expectations
- Prepare high-quality sandwiches, wraps, and beverages while maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming department environment.
- Maintain department inventory levels by replenishing smoothie and juice bar ingredients, coffee beans, and other café supplies as needed
- Assist with daily opening and closing procedures (based on scheduled hours), including inventory preparation, merchandising, and product control, and support the training of entry-level team members as assigned by Fresh Foods leadership
- Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary department, display, prep, and storage areas, and actively participate in the established department cleaning schedule
- Practice safe food handling at all times and comply with health department regulations, including proper temperature control, use of hair restraints, restrictions on eating and drinking in work areas, appropriate glove use, and other required food safety standards
