The Special Programs Coordinator supports the Berkshire Community College TRIO Student Support Services program funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Working under the direction of the TRIO Program Director, the Coordinator plans and implements educational programming, provides individualized academic coaching, and ensures compliance with federal grant requirements. Duties include monitoring student progress, maintaining records for grant reporting, assisting with recruitment and retention initiatives, and collaborating with faculty, staff, and external partners to promote student success. The Coordinator represents TRIO programs on campus and at professional events and provides direct service to students through coaching, tutoring, and success strategies development. This position is a front-facing position that requires in-person interaction with various agencies and individuals on campus to conduct workshops, attend events and communicate with other departments, students, parents, faculty members, schools and other organizations.

Specific Duties:
Programming:
Plan and deliver educational programs and workshops aligned with grant goals.
Collaborate with internal departments and external organizations for supplemental programming and recruitment.
Develop, recommend, and evaluate initiatives to enhance student success and engagement.

Academic Coaching:
Provide in-person individualized coaching on academic, career, and personal plans; monitor progress.
Respond in real time to student questions, concerns, and emerging issues.
Communicate program updates and deadlines via multiple channels.
Help students build self-advocacy and success strategies; refer to additional services as needed.

Data & Compliance:
Maintain student records and verify eligibility for grant compliance.
Monitor intake processes, retention efforts, and case management procedures.
Assist with assessment, data collection, and reporting for APR and grant renewal.

Professional Engagement:
Participate in TRIO meetings, campus activities, and professional development.
Support budget monitoring and grant renewal efforts.
Represent TRIO programs on campus and at external events; maintain knowledge of regulations.
Demonstrated ability to stay flexible and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.

Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Business Administration, Mathematics, Computer Science, or other field related.
Three (3) years experience and/or training involving area of assignment, which may include college registration, academic advisement, career development, career experience, training, curriculum development, audio/visual or graphic production, grant administration, budget development, program/project management, event planning, administrative work in an academic environment, or personal computer operations; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
Proven ability to work effectively with a diverse student, faculty and staff population.
Strong technology skills and ability to learn new software including database management (Student Access, EAB, Colleague, Microsoft Office/Teams, Canva preferred).

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in education, higher education, student personnel administration, developmental education, counseling, social work.
A minimum of 3 years working directly with students counseling and advising them in a K-12 or higher ed setting.
Previous experience in TRIO programs.

Additional Information:
Source of Funding: Grant; Duration of employment is contingent on continued availability of funding.
Salary: $63,159 - $75,089 per MCCC contract*, Grade 4; Full-time, Benefited
Area of Assignment: Student Affairs and Enrollment Management/TRIO
Effective Start Date: February 2026

  • Actual salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience and in accordance with the MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
