As a valuable member of the Division of Teaching and Learning Innovation (TLI) and reporting to the Dean of Teaching and Learning, the Coordinator of Writing Across the Curriculum will lead and facilitate writing across the curriculum initiatives, including the management of the BCC Writing Center. The Coordinator of Writing Across the Curriculum will work with faculty, student tutors, and staff to design, develop, and evaluate writing and reading related professional development opportunities; and provide oversight for comprehensive writing support services through the Writing Center. The position supports the programs and services within TLI by facilitating teaching and learning workshops and leading professional development sessions as needed.
Essential Functions:
Work with faculty in all academic divisions to provide targeted, discipline-specific writing support for students and support writing across the curriculum.
Work with faculty across disciplines to design, implement, and assess effective writing assignments and support faculty in fostering effective reading strategies for students.
Provide support for and supervision of the student tutors working in the Writing Center, including providing opportunities for professional development and writing center research as appropriate.
Teaches two courses per year which may include ENG-235: Advanced Composition and Training for Writing Tutors for incoming student tutors, and/or courses in BCC's composition sequence.
Manage the Writing Center including oversight of budget and payroll; scheduling of student tutors; maintaining a professional and welcoming Writing Center physical and online spaces (WC Online and webpage); recruitment of student tutors; and assessment of student usage for planning purposes.
Coordinate Writing Center marketing and outreach efforts including classroom visits, representation at campus-wide events, collaboration with other departments on campus, maintenance of the website and publications.
Collect, analyze, and report on student learning data particularly as it relates to faculty professional development and student success.
Collaborate with Tutoring Services to provide targeted support for student writing across the curriculum.
Design and lead writing and reading related workshops for group activities during class visits, special presentations, and events.
Collaborate with TLI staff in designing and facilitating workshops, activities, and presentations at Professional Days, New Faculty Seminar and TLI programs related to teaching and learning.
Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree, preferably in English, Creative Writing, Rhetoric & Composition, Education, or closely related field; and 2-5-year experience and/or training involving area of assignment, which may include education, program/project management, curriculum development, student affairs, advising, student engagement, organizational development, student learning outcome and assessment or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Experience applying knowledge of best practices related to writing across the curriculum to diverse faculty groups across a college campus
Experience applying knowledge of writing center best practices, administration, and training to coordinating and maintaining a collegiate Writing Center.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Experience working in a team environment and the ability to foster collaborative relationships.
Ability to support equity-minded pedagogical innovation that addresses the needs of a diverse student body.
Ability to manage multiple complex projects and initiatives.
Experience with academic technologies, including the use of a learning management system.
Previous teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Community college teaching experience.
Demonstrated proficiency in two or more languages.
Experience providing professional development to faculty and staff audiences on best practices for supporting the success of multilingual learners in academic learning environments.
