Role Description The Energy Auditor/QCI (Quality Control Inspector) is a full-time, on-site role based in Reading, PA. This role conducts in-home energy audits and inspections to evaluate building performance, identify energy-saving opportunities, and ensure compliance with program standards. Daily responsibilities include visiting client homes, performing diagnostic testing (such as blower door and combustion safety tests), documenting existing conditions, and recommending cost-effective energy efficiency measures. The Energy Auditor/QCI also completes final quality control inspections to verify that weatherization and energy upgrades are properly installed and meet safety and performance requirements. The position involves regular interaction with clients to explain findings, answer questions, coordinate access to homes, and provide education on energy conservation and safe use of equipment. The role requires accurate reporting, timely data entry into program systems, collaboration with contractors and internal teams, and adherence to all health, safety, and regulatory guidelines.
Qualifications
- Strong inspection and field assessment skills, including the ability to perform detailed residential inspections and document findings clearly.
- Experience in auditing and quality control, with the ability to review work for compliance with technical standards, safety requirements, and program guidelines.
- Knowledge of energy efficiency and building science principles, including weatherization practices, building envelope analysis, and diagnostic testing.
- Understanding of energy management concepts, including identifying energy waste, recommending improvements, and supporting long-term energy savings goals.
- Effective customer service skills, with the ability to communicate respectfully and clearly with clients of diverse backgrounds and explain technical information in plain language.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; relevant technical training, certifications (such as BPI, RESNET, or QCI), or vocational education in energy, construction, or related fields preferred.
- Ability to work safely in homes and in the field, including climbing ladders, accessing attics and basements, and using diagnostic equipment.
- Proficiency with basic computer applications for data entry, reporting, and documentation.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel locally for site visits.
