Job Description:
Berklee is looking for a dedicated, "live-in" professional to serve as a Resident Director (RD). In this pivotal role, you will be the heartbeat of a residential community of up to 450 students, fostering an environment where young musicians and performers can grow both personally and artistically. As a mentor, administrator, and crisis responder, you will implement a Residential Curriculum designed to turn dorm life into a transformative educational experience. At Berklee, your work directly supports the next generation of creative leaders.
About the Role & Responsibilities
The RD is a full-time, 12-month position reporting to the Associate Director of Residential Education. You will lead a staff of 3–12 Resident Assistants (RAs) and manage the day-to-day operations of your assigned hall(s).
Key Responsibilities:
  • Staff Supervision: Recruit, train, and supervise RAs. Conduct weekly meetings to review goals, discuss hall issues, and support staff development.
  • Residential Curriculum: Partner with the academic mission by creating learning goals and educational strategies. Train RAs on high-impact practices that promote holistic student growth.
  • Crisis Intervention: Serve in a 24/7 "Primary-On-Call" rotation. You must maintain a 10-minute response time to any campus incident in partnership with Public Safety and Health and Wellness.
  • Student Conduct: Act as a Hearing Officer, adjudicating cases and assigning sanctions to uphold community standards and safety.
  • Living Learning Communities (LLCs): Collaborate with faculty and campus partners to design co-curricular activities and manage recruitment for specialized housing communities.
  • Facility Management: Conduct weekly building walk-throughs, manage room condition reports, and coordinate with Facilities/Physical Plant for maintenance and safety.
What You'll Bring (Requirements)
This role requires a blend of administrative precision, empathetic leadership, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Educational & Professional Requirements:
  • Master’s Degree Required: Must be in Student Personnel, Counseling, Education, or a related field.
  • Experience: 1–3 years of post-bachelor’s experience in residential life, student activities, judicial affairs, or orientation.
  • Skills: Exceptional written and oral communication, strong organizational habits, and the ability to work independently or within a group.
  • Mindset: Creativity, self-motivation, and a "customer service" approach to student needs.
