Position Title: Head Varsity Coach - Girls Field Hockey Location: Berkeley High School Stipend: $4,000 (plus $250 MCAL playoff bonus) Staff Budget: $6,000 (to be used for building Varsity and JV coaching staffs, including paid assistants and volunteers) Job Description: Berkeley High School is seeking a dedicated and experienced Head Varsity Coach to lead our Girls Field Hockey program. Under the supervision of the Athletic Department, the Head Coach is responsible for the overall organization and management of both the Varsity and Junior Varsity levels. We are looking for a coach that can build a vertically aligned program culture grounded in sportsmanship, skill development, and positive student-athlete experiences. Major Responsibilities: Program Leadership: Oversee all aspects of the girls' field hockey program, ensuring a consistent culture and philosophy from JV through Varsity levels. Staff Management: Recruit, hire, and manage a staff of assistant coaches and volunteers. The Head Coach has an additional $6,000 budget specifically for building out these staffs. Compliance: Ensure the program follows all rules and regulations of the CIF, NCS, WACC, and Berkeley Unified School District. Coaching & Mentorship: Teach fundamental skills, physical conditioning, and game strategies while modeling the principles of the Positive Coaching Alliance's "Double-Goal Coach" description (striving to win while teaching life lessons). Administration: Manage team rosters, build full-season schedules, and oversee the care, inventory, and storage of all uniforms and equipment. Facility Management: Coordinate with the Athletic Department regarding practice times and help maintain the quality and upkeep of team facilities. Safety: Prioritize student-athlete well-being, including injury mitigation, proper warm-up techniques, and following all school disciplinary and safety policies.
