Product Innovation | Formulation Development | Commercialization
Protein Research is seeking an innovative and results-driven R&D Food Scientist to lead the development, tech transfer, and commercialization of dietary supplement and nutrition products. This role is ideal for a hands-on scientist who enjoys combining technical expertise, creativity, and problem-solving to develop products that meet customer needs and manufacturing requirements.
You will work closely with customers, Sales, Operations, Quality, Regulatory, and Supply Chain teams to transform product concepts into commercially successful solutions.
What You'll Do -
Product Development & Innovation
- Develop dietary supplement and nutrition formulations from concept through commercialization.
- Transform customer requirements, market trends, and emerging technologies into innovative product concepts and prototypes.
- Serve as a technical resource for assigned customers and development projects.
- Present formulation recommendations, product concepts, and technical solutions to customers and internal stakeholders.
- Identify and evaluate novel ingredients, technologies, and formulation approaches to support new product development.
- Partner with ingredient suppliers to identify optimal ingredient solutions for customer projects.
Commercialization & Scale-Up
- Design and execute bench-top, pilot, and production-scale trials.
- Support scale-up and technology transfer activities to manufacturing.
- Identify and qualify new equipment, processes, and manufacturing technologies.
- Collaborate with Operations, Quality, Regulatory, and Supply Chain teams to ensure successful product launches.
- Troubleshoot formulation and process challenges and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Project Management
- Manage new product development and reformulation projects from initiation through launch.
- Coordinate timelines, deliverables, and cross-functional activities to meet project objectives and customer commitments.
- Facilitate project meetings and communicate progress, risks, and recommendations.
Technical & Regulatory Support
- Create and maintain product development documentation, including Master Manufacturing Records (MMRs), finished product specifications, Raw material specifications, and label reviews.
- Develop Nutrition Facts and Supplement Facts panels.
- Support product compliance with regulatory requirements and third-party certifications, including Kosher, Organic (CCOF), GFCO, and related programs.
- Assist with stability studies and shelf-life evaluations for new and reformulated products.
Collaboration & Industry Engagement
- Develop productive relationships with customers, suppliers, consultants, and industry professionals.
- Provide technical support to Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, and other cross-functional teams.
- Stay current on industry trends, ingredient innovations, and emerging technologies.
Required Qualifications-
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, Nutrition, or a related scientific discipline.
- Experience in formulation and product development within dietary supplements, sports nutrition, functional foods, or related industries.
- Strong understanding of ingredient functionality and manufacturing processes.
- Experience supporting pilot plant and commercial-scale trials.
- Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications-
- Experience in dietary supplement contract manufacturing.
- Familiarity with FDA dietary supplement regulations and labeling requirements.
- Experience creating Nutrition Facts and Supplement Facts panels.
- Experience working with flavor systems and sensory evaluation.
- Experience developing tablets and capsules.
- Knowledge of stability testing and shelf-life studies.
- Proficiency with ESHA Genesis, ERP systems, project management and Microsoft Office applications.
- Working knowledge of statistical analysis and experimental design.

Work Environment-
- Work is performed primarily in office and laboratory environments, with regular interaction in manufacturing areas.
- Manufacturing environments may include varying temperatures, moderate-to-high noise levels, powders, aromas, and common food allergens.
- Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required.
