Overview
Berkeley Eye Center/Woodlands is looking for an experienced Ophthalmic Assistant for a 12–15-week temporary assignment. We offer a strong hourly rate plus a generous assignment completion bonus. This position involves assisting with various clinical tasks, ensuring a smooth patient experience, and supporting the overall efficiency of the office.
Responsibilities
- Assist ophthalmologists during examinations and procedures, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Conduct preliminary tests such as visual acuity, tonometry, and refraction.
- Record patient medical histories and vital signs accurately.
- Manage front desk operations, including scheduling appointments and handling patient inquiries.
- Process medical billing and coding for insurance claims, ensuring accuracy in documentation.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of examination rooms and equipment.
- Educate patients on pre-operative and post-operative care instructions.
- Collaborate with team members to enhance patient flow and office efficiency.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in patient care or a medical setting is preferred.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, specifically related to ophthalmology.
- Knowledge of medical billing and coding practices is a plus.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with patients and staff.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Experience in retail sales or front desk operations is advantageous.
- Understanding of pediatric care principles is beneficial but not mandatory.
- Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems is desirable.
This position is temporary but could easily lead to a permanent FT opportunity.
