This position typically is responsible for ensuring the safety of the patrons while enforcing rules; and dealing courteously and effectively with fellow employees and citizens. These duties are performed near large areas of water that are inhabited by reptiles or other wildlife in controlled and/or natural environments.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Ensures the safety of swimmers by preventing, recognizing and responding to emergencies.Administer CPR or First Aid when necessary.Continuously scan the assigned areas to monitor behaviors and potential hazards.Greet visitors and guests, receiving and accounting for admission fees and revenues, closing out the cash register(s) and completing reporting paperwork at the end of each day. Enforce facility rules, regulations and safety policies. Assist with maintaining cleanliness throughout the facility.Monitor weather conditions (i.e. lightning, winds, etc.).Performs other duties as assigned.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Must be at least 16 years of age;Previous experience as a lifeguard preferred;Must have or be able to obtain a valid Lifeguard Certification including the Swim Test;Must have or be able to obtain a valid CPR Certification;Must have or be able to obtain a valid First Aid Certification;Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license for South Carolina with a safe driving record;SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Departmental testing may be administered during interview; A criminal background check will be completed on selected applicant if a current one (less than 3 years old) is not on file.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Skill in self-guidance requiring minimal supervision.Ability to be flexible with schedule changes and short notice overtime requests.Ability to work enthusiastically with the public.Ability to work under pressure.Ability to use office equipment.MANDATORY LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION CLASS INFORMATION: Must pass Swim Test for full certification - April 15, 2026 (5pm-6pm) at Cane Bay Family YMCAMust attend ALL certification classes - April 17 (4pm-8pm); April 18 (8am-8pm); April 19 (8am-8pm) at Cane Bay Family YMCA
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
The work is regularly performed outdoors with frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside and/or with exposure to risk. Daily exposure to extreme temperature, wetness and/or humidity, and noise and vibration. Hours will not exceed twenty-nine (29) hours per week. Normal operating hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday through Saturday on a rotating schedule with the ability to work after hours when necessary. Weekend and holiday work will be required. Scheduled hours/days, job location, duties and any other information contained herein is subject to change. May be required to work extra hours and to perform extra or different duties during emergency situations.
