REPORTS TO: The Clerk of the Circuit Court
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Under the direct supervision of the Circuit Clerk, this position performs duties which may include the preparation, maintenance, and processing of court records, as well as providing support services. Duties depend on the needs of the office and are not limited to the duties listed below. The Deputy Clerk I requires strict maintenance of confidentiality. Professionalism and punctuality are top priorities for the Circuit Court. This role is ideal for someone who can work independently with little supervision, while still working on a team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
- Receive, sort, and distribute mail.
- Prepares certified mail receipts and ensures mail/receipts are returned to the appropriate court file.
- Processes and posts receipts
- Maintains case information by:
b. Entering sentencing/judgement data
c. Maintaining case docketing in computer system.
- Provides verbal and written support to customers and attorneys, which includes the attorney’s personnel and various court personnel.
- Verifies payment history and provides certified copies upon request.
- Works directly with supervisor for guidance on work processes, plans, and actions as needed.
- Answers and transfers incoming calls.
- Follows all record retention and destruction protocols.
- Scans records into case management system.
- Maintains confidentiality at all times.
- Remains professional while hearing sensitive information.
- Performs all other duties as otherwise directed by Circuit Clerk or supervising Senior Deputy Clerk.
QUALIFICATION AND REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or its equivalent (GED)
- Must be able to type 40 correct words per minute.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite
- Strong literacy and mathematical skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Accounts payable and receivable experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of legal terminology is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Exertion of up to 25 pounds of force occasionally
- Work may require standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, handling, kneeling, crouching, bending, using hands and fingers to operate technology, and repetitive motions.
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time without breaks (Up to 4 hours)
